I heard a rumor today the bird may not open this year; is this why there is no schedule posted?

From their website.......................sounds like they are planning to run this year.

ATTENTION RACE TEAMS

There are just a few changes to the rules for 2010. Other than what's noted below, things will be identical to last season. Full text will be posted soon, but until then here are details on the revisions...

Limited Late Model - Change max height of deck + spoiler to 46 inches instead of 44.

Pure Stock - Aluminum body panels allowed. Must have stock appearing lines, curves, etc.

General:

Driver must be 15 years old with notarized release from parent/guardian, 16 without. Next year will be 16 only.

Will add procedural info. (All the details that were announced at the banquet. Will post specifics in the next few days.)

All rules and policies will be strictly enforced.

Why would they take the time and effort to add an extra row of guardrails and not open? Louie will never close a cash cow like he has had there for many years. Would you?

Actually that's not true. Get a copy of the Speedway Directory. While I was snowed in here in scenic Bentleyville, I was perusing last year's edition. PA has more tracks than any state in our fine union other than Texas. So per capita, we actually have too many tracks. Too many hands in the coffer. If a few closed down, we may be able to eliminate some of these excess, track specific divisions and have bigger fields and more fans at less tracks.

No disrespect to those associated with the bird, or any of the other tracks that are on the verge of closing, but there are too many in the state! Granted it's pie in the sky thinking, but if some of the smaller tracks could consolidate, combine their sponsors and drivers instead of fighting over the same ones, maybe, just maybe, the quality of product would improve for all parties.

Or maybe I've just been snowed in too long!

I know PA has more tracks than nearly any other state. Guess I was just being greedy. I'm working on a project and having some of those tracks back in the region (Windber, Challenger, Ebensburg, Hidden Valley (Gamblers) and Jennerstown) would make my job easier. Not many tracks close to the State College/Centre County region. But, I agree that tracks running within a few miles of each other on the same night doesn't help matters. Also, I've never understood why asphalt tracks aren't that popular around here. Maybe it's history. I don't know. Regardless, I wish everyone in racing the best trying to survive in the current economical climate.

Clinton County is pretty close to State College/Centre.
But you're right, there is Dog Hollow, Thunder Mt., Hummingbird, Gamblers (if repopens) CPS, all within reasonable driving distance from the Clearfield/DuBois areas.
I guess we have a good amount of variety.

I forgot Marion Center. Even McKean isnt that bad of a drive.

Yeah, Clinton County is the closest to State College. About 40 minutes. CPS, Hesston and Port Royal are about an hour. If you look at this link http://www.chasinracin.com/track-locator/states/pa.shtml you'll see it's pretty barren in the middle of the state where we're located. So, if this project gets off the ground, I'll have a lot of traveling to do on the weekends. But, that's for another time and another post.
