I'm sure I'll make it down there a couple times this year. I like Roaring Knob.

One thing though...

I don't like them calling their October race Fall Fest. It's a big crate race, and disrespectful of what Fall Fest was, at least here in western PA. I understand that it's a big race and all and you want to give it a name, but that name shouldn't be Fall Fest. Call It the Fall Spectacular or whatever.

7k to win supers, 2k to win crates. Sure, the supers don't pay as much as the "real" Fall Fest did, but take out the Steel Blocks, insert FASTRAK, and its the same thing Challenger's Fall Fest was. Who knows, in 5-10 years, this could be the new Fall Fest. It is a big crate race, but a bigger SLM race as well. The Fall Fest is dead and gone, and really wasn't a huge national crown jewel that they took the now retired race name from, its not like they called it the World 100.

Considering it's location, "THE MASON-DIXON SHOOTOUT" maybe?

Cool. Great name. There might even be a southern driver or two in attendance.

"Challenger Fall Fest" is gone forever and went out with success other than the incidents of those that could not control their rage. The name "Fall Fest" is actually very generic. There are several tracks using that name including Williams Grove on the same weekend. It is even used for fall season non-racing events. That is one reason the name "The Ultimate" was introduce to the Challenger event in the final years, to designate it from other events with the same names. The weekend is wide open and Roaring Knob will be a great place to continue the PA fall tradition on that weekend.

Ask somebody if they remember the last running of "The Ultimate" and see what response you get. Then call it "Fall Fest" and see how the reaction compares. Nobody called Fall Fest "The Ultimate." How and why that name, and the myriad other goofy names of races in the past few years were cooked up is beyond me. It was (and continues to be) more annoying than recognizable/memorable.

In racing or any other business, if you can either innovate, adapt and make changes to keep things going forward, or keep doing the same old thing you get the same old result. The last 2 years of the event a lot of changes were made, and car counts and fan counts were back where they should have been. Shame a few hotheads helped take it away.....

If I'm not mistaken the origional "Fall Fest" was a limited late/super stock race that was won by Floyd Kline.

i loved fallfest as much as anybody because come feature time you knew the racing would be great. but to blame all the problems on a couple hot heads was ridiculous, the security, and the things that were allowed to happen in the camping areas, was just crazy. i wish the race was still going on, but the management also has to take some of the heat. you had a flag man who had no control over what was happening on the track, and hardly any security on the grounds. i am surprised it actually lasted as long as it did.

I dont care what the hell they call it. Now I get to see more racing! I'm hoping that this new ownership is successful...maybe bring some more drivers in. Always entertaining at the Knob.

That's the problem with things today. Everyone wants to blame something on someone else instead of the true cause of the problem.

If people acted responsibly there shouldn't be any need for security on the grounds. The bad thing about Challenger was always, for some reason, the biggest idiots in Western PA seemed to congregate there. And as usual people want to blame track management for not hiring enough security to make sure people act civilized when it shouldn't be necessary. And why would the flagman have to control what happens on the track? Shouldn't the drivers control what happens on the track?

If any driver at any track decide to turn his 2,200-3,400 pound car into a moving weapon in a moment of rage, no body is going to be able to stop it before it happens.

Great point! I saw some of the best latemodel races at Challenger! Jack brought some of the biggest name drivers from around the country. It is a shame it is gone... I am thinking with the economy racing as we know it may be in for a major change. I guess the point everyone can agree on is 'enjoy the moment' nothing is forever. I have never been to Roaring Knob and I am going to make it a point to get there. I am planning TO DO MORE TRAVELING.... much more as racing is changing before our very eyes with the tire situation.

you will certainly like roaring knob, if you are more into the laid back, bring your own lawnchair thing. this is a really nice place. i enjoy it so much that i quit going to the world 100, and instead go to the king of the knob that weekend.

I skipped the World for the King of the Knob last year as well and I'm glad I did. The racing was a 100 times better than at Eldora.
