yeah no thanks . at 7000rpm i dont want my driveshaft vibrating because its unbalanced. take it somewhere and have them do it RIGHT for 35 bucks. if you cut your driveshaft down then grind and weld it in your garage you are crazy and im sure your racecar is pry not very safe. take it to a freakin machine shop and have it done right. cutting corners and doing things you have never done or dont know how to do is just dumb and dangerous. remember when your unbalanced drive shaft breaks and falls out the guy behind you is the one that has to worry about it. the drive shaft is the closest moving piece to your body why half-ass it? you ever had one blow through your interior?? not fun. what happens when your cut is not perfect and straight?? then your shaft will not be lined up and it wont be straight...again not safe

1-814-725-8535. Dave is very good with machine work and is very cheap. he is retired and does this stuff to help racers out. i paid 35 a driveshaft to have mine cut down. he will repattern axles, press bearings on/off, replace rearend axle tubes, make beadlocks out of regular rims..anything that needs machine work for a racecar he can do.

i totally agree get it done right cause ive had one brake and trash the interior and smash the side of my seat but i once seen a guy brake a drive shaft and it broke his arm so its ur choice to spend 35 bucks or take a chance. id send the money cause if ur that cheap u shouldnt be racing if u say theres a guy that does them for 35 bucks

I had a stock driveshaft shortened and it broke in half and almost came up through the decking , and the part that was swinging from the rear end dug into the track and lifted the car off the ground . so it is probably a good idea to have a heavy duty one built like i finally did . I should have known better but was trying to save money it also broke the transmission too boot.i had my new one made at patterson machine in philipsburg .you won't twist this one off i will guarantee it .good luck .

I have shortned quit a few for pure stock and street stocks. Never had a complaint or problem with one yet. tell me how many drive shafts you have seen break at the weld??? It is either the universal or where it rubbed on your drive shaft hoop or something. If you can take a drive shaft cut it and weld it, I sure would be afraid to see the rest of the work on your race car. I am sure it is real nice.. lol.. but if you want to take it to someone and spend the money for them to grind the weld off and cut the tube and weld it back together go head. just a suggestion I had to help save the guy a few bucks. not all race car owners are rich!!

come inspect it at Sharon on the 10th if you like...super safe and very well built and maintained.(and fast) and no i couldnt weld my driveshaft because i dont weld. i have a welder for a friend that works at the local racecar shop. i never questioned your welding dude..must be you think i did. all i said is if its something you have never done before then you pry shouldn't try it. and since he was asking im sure he doesn't know how to do it... when i take mine to get done the cut is made at a perfect 90 degree angle on the lathe so there is no chance of the shaft being out of balance or the cut even being one degree off 90.. there is not one touch of grindin done at the machine shop. therefore no chance of grinding one part more than the other. the weld is turned down on the lathe, then the yoke is removed. then the correct lenthg is measued then the shaft is cut to length on the lathe with the turn down tool. this way you do not have to match up cuts that you have made. he just slides the yoke back in and welds it up. there is absolutely no chance for a mistake when a machine does the cut...but remember it only takes one slight miscalculation aka human error to have a bad accident. i dont know cuz ive never seen a pure stock race but i gota say i dont think to many of them run at 7000+ rpm

and if somebody's driveshaft is rubbing on the driveshaft hoop then the car is pry a hoop unsure.gif

I agree you should know what you are doing to try and do it. But if you take your time and know what you are doing it can be done. I run a carbon fiber one in my car. Also when I did run a steel one in my late model I bought one the currect length for it. But in a car with only 350-500 hp. I wouldn't be afraid to shorten one. now if you need to lengthen one that is a different story.

But you would be suprised on the number of car I have seen that the drive shaft was rubbing on something. all you need to do is look at it. if it is painted white and you will see where the paint is wore off. Next time you are walking around the pits, just for the fun of it take a look and see how many you can see. Those are the cars that break drive shafts. or the guys that run the same u-joints for 4 years or find some old junk yard drive shaft that fits and just throw it in..lol no hard feelings buddy.
