QUOTE (Skull @ Feb 9 2010, 01:41 AM) Great idea, and yes I'd definitely watch. We need to support our local racers as much as possible.
None of the network affiliates in the Pittsburgh area cover local auto racing at all. TV is still the best promotional tool there is to attract new fans. I wish you the best of luck. i couldnt agree more. thats why for all the races i run this year i am posting facebook events and trying to promote my racing as much as possible but also the sport as a whole.

I'd watch it if I was in the local market since SPEED does not show racing anymore.

Back in the late 80's/early 90's Jennerstown Speedway had a local weekly show called Chase to the Checkered. Which had a really unique format where the two track announcers, Mike Nelson and Dave Couler (spelling?), would do a setup of the features and then segway into the live call. Mike could get a little animated on the mic which usually made it really entertaining to listen to and watch.
I believe it was broadcast through WJAC 8 out of Johnstown, PA. Maybe someone on here could give you some more information or get you an archived copy of the show. In my opinion it was a very well constructed program that kept your interest. (And it also had a really catchy opening theme as well). Just passing it along in case your looking for different ideas on what type of format to use.

Thanks for the reply. I used to watch "Chase to the Checkers" a lot...even though it aired on a competing station. Hey...at least SOMEONE was interested in local racing back then. I believe it was produced by RMGTV in Somerset. The same group did a Late Model feature from Motordrome this past fall. It aired a few times on FSN. They do a great job. I thought about getting with them to help out, if needed. But, when there was interest at my station to do a show, then I changed my mind. Would be cool, but I'm more about covering different tracks each week. I'm still putting together a presentation and doing research, but will pass along any info.

Just an update. With having to train a new part-timer here the past few weeks, my show presentation got pushed back. Regardless, it looks like this show will definitely become a reality. As with anything pertaining to racing, we'll be seeking sponsorship to companies that are interested. However, that's not a determining factor. Once I have more details, I'll will post an announcement. And, maybe even upload the short presentation to give people an idea of what to expect. As stated in the first post, even if you live outside of our region and can't get WHVL-TV, there's a good chance the show will be streamed on our website; www.whvl.com
As we say in the business, stay tuned.

racing@whvl.com Actually a guy named Jerry Clark from Johnstown did the original production work on Chase to the Checkered then at some point it went to I believe the name is the Romes Group. When it was done from its inception Jennerstown (Lasky Family) had to buy the TV time at KDKA, then WTAE and also WJAC in Johnstown. Although some of that money spent was off set by sponsors.
