FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Satterlee Leads the “Revolution” at Hesston!

(Hesston, PA) Gregg Satterlee of Rochester Mills, PA continues to be one of the hottest Super Late Model drivers in the East in 2012. Satterlee added a prized Hesston Speedway win to his collection of victories Sunday night by out-racing a stellar field of drivers to win “Revolution 2012” Speedmonster and 3 State Flyers event sponsored by Frankland Racing Supply, G & R Excavating & Demolition, Bedford County Tree & Lawn Solutions and Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home.

4 thrilling heat races and 2 consolations narrowed the 34-car field down to a grid of 24 drivers. Jason Covert kicked off the night by winning the 1st heat race from last place, a sign of the excellent track surface and spectacular racing to follow. Satterlee gave a preview of his power by winning the 2nd heat after a side-by-side battle with Jeff Miller. Jeremy Miller won the 3rd heat and defending champion of “The Ultimate” Jamie Lathroum was the 4th heat winner. Gregg Fetters and Jeff Rine split the consolation win.

With a redraw of the top 12 positions, Big Block Modified superstar Billy Decker and 2011 UFo champion Devin Friese led the field to the green flag of the 55 lap feature. Friese used the perfect cushion to surge into the lead at the start, but on lap Decker, in his first appearance at Motor Mountain, raced into the lead. Decker began to open up a lead while Friese and Satterlee began to race for 2nd Satterlee took that position from Friese on lap 10, leaving Friese to race with Lathroum and Brian Tavenner for 3rd. Covert had marched from his 9th place starting position to pass Tavenner and break into the top 5 on lap 17.

The first caution of the race appeared for a 2 car incident in turn 2 on lap 18. On the restart, Satterlee began to battle with Decker for the lead with Covert in hot pursuit. Decker and Satterlee dueled for the next 11 laps until Satterlee came off of turn 4 on lap 29 just ahead of Decker, with Covert, Tavenner and Lathroum in tow. 1 lap later the 2nd caution fo the race appears for a stopped car.

On the double file restart, Satterlee blasted back into the lead ahead of Decker and Covert. Jeremy Miller worked his way into 4th ahead of Lathroum. “Superthunder Road” winner Nick Dickson started 16th and was picking off positions using the bottom groove of the track and was now in 6th. Another caution for a 2 car incident appeared a few laps later. On the restat, Covert began to fade and stopped with a flat tire on lap 37.

On the final restart of the race, Satterlee once again took control followed by Decker, Miller, Dickson and Lathroum. Dickson moved into 3rd on lap 38 and then set his sites on Decker. Decker and Dickson ran side by side until lap 52 when he moved into 2nd. Satterlee crossed under the checker flag 1st on lap 55 to claim his 1st-ever Hesston win.

After passing 23 cars to win “Superthunder Road” in June, Dickson advance 14 positions to come home 2nd with Decker, Miller, and Lathroum rounding out the top 5. 13th starting Jerry Bard, Tavenner, Dutch Davies, Steve Campbell and Friese round out the top 10. Dickson was the G & R Excavating & Demolition hard charger after advancing 14 positions.

The “Ron Strait Championships” were also part of the program in honor of a lost friend. Rick Singleton of Huntingdon, PA came out the winner of the 30-lap Semi-Late Model Sportsman $1,100 to win feature sponsored by Walter’s Auto Wrecking. Rance Garlock jumped into the lead at the start with a caution slowing the pace on lap 1. Robbie Black took control on the double file restart in a 3-car race with Garlock and Tim Smith with Singleton in pursuit in 4th.

On a double file restart on lap 5, Singleton moved into 2nd and a 4-car race for the lead began. Garlock regained 2nd on lap 8 but Singleton came back into the position on lap 10, then took the lead from Black on lap 12. Smith gained 2nd on lap 13 whlile Garlock moved into 3rd on lap 14 while Black brought out the caution with a flat tire on lap 16.

On the double file restart, Singleton opened up a lead leaving Smith and Garlock to race for 2nd with Garlock regaining the position with 7 to go. At the finish it was Singleton, Garlock, Smith, Jake Jones and Glenn Elliott taking to top 5 positions followed by Eric Irvin, Cory Houck, Luke Hoffner, Black, and Dwayne Tanneyhill. Hoffner, Smith and Jones were heat race winners with Frank Todaro winning the consolation. Tanneyhill won the hard charger award sponsored by Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home with a 9 position gain.

Bill Henney of Huntingdon continued his winning ways in the 24 lap, $700 to win A-Cadet championship sponsored by Dan’s Auto Body. Rich Swope took control at the green flag with Tony Daniels and Colton Gearhart in pursuit. Gearhart motored into 2nd on lap 5 while Henney was advancing from his 8th starting position. Henney moved into 3rd on lap 7 and then too that position from Gearhart on lap 10. At the halfway point, Henney took the lead from Swope. With Gearhart, Dave Brown and Mike Desch following. 11th starting Steve Lowery moved into the top 5 on lap 14. Brown and Lowery moved by Desch on lap 14 and then Lowery took 4th from Brown 3 laps later.

A caution flag on lap 23 set up a 25 lap race as track rules require a green-white-checker finish. On the white flag lap of the restart, Lowery and Brown made contact sending both cars to the rear and now putting the race into an overtime 26 lap distance. Henney held off Swope on the final restart with Gearhart, Desch and Cris Edwards rounding out the top 5. Tim Krape, Daniels, Boyd Brode, Mark Whitsel and Brown came home 6th to 10th. Swope and Henney were heat race winners. Henney was also the hard charger sponsored by Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home.

Bedford County Tree and Lawn Solutions put up extra money to increase the Hobby-Modified feature to $500 to win in the division sponsored by Bubba’s Pizza and Sub Station. When the checker flag flew, Brad McGinnis of Huntingdon came out the winner after a strong battle with Lou Wannyn. Wannyn blasted into the lead at the start with Ryan Sager quickly moving into 2nd. McGinnis came from his 6th place starting position on lap 3 and took 2nd from Sager 6 laps later. He then began to race Wannyn for the lead and took control on lucky lap 13 which is also his car number.

At the checker, the finish was McGinnis, Wannyn, and Sager while Derek Grabill advanced from his 12th starting position to claim 4th. 12th starting Chad Gambol, 15th starting Ed Vogel, 18th starting Andy Los, Matt Krause, Patrick Sypker and Terry Norris rounded out the top 10. Andy Los won the hard charger award sponsored by Curtis A. Heath Funeral Home after advancing 11 positions.

In an action filled Roadrunner, 16 lap championship, newcomer Ken White of DuBois, PA rocketed from his 12th starting position to take the $222 win. Cale Martin lead the initial 6 laps. On a double file restart on lap 7. White took the point from Martin while Mike Lauffer had advance from 15th to move into 3rd. Lauffer then moved by Martin for 2nd on lap 8 with Andrew Pluta passing Martin 1 lap later. With 4 laps to go, Lauffer and Pluta tangled giving 2nd back to Martin.

White raced back into the lead on the restart and was followed at the finish by Martin, 9th starting Robert Pluta, EJ Johnson and 10th starting Steve Frederick. Ellis Whitsel, Ryan Claycomb, Michael Jack Wityk, Andrew Pluta, and Ryan Norris rounded out the top 10. White was also the winner of the hard charger sponsored by Curtis A. Heath Funeral home by advancing 11 positions.

The next event at Hesston is “Mega-Blitz Mach3” and the “Eriksen Grand Championships” on Sunday, September 3. This event will feature the Speedmonter, ULMS and 3 State Flyers Super Late Models in twin 30 lap features paying $5,100 total to win. Triple 30 late model features are scheduled with the Semi-Late Model Sportsman also running 30 laps for $1,000. A-Cadets, Hobby-Modifieds and Roadrunners will race in championship features. Rain date is September 4.

The season will conclude with the regions most spectacular fall event. “The Ultimate” will return to Hesston on October 11-12-13 with Speedmonster/ULMS Super Late Models racing for $12,555 total to win. The “Challenger Super Championships” for Semi-Late Model Sportsman, A-Cadets, Hobby-Modifieds and Roadunners will pay high prize money for those classes. Reserve seating is available now for that event.

Three state flyers are sanctioning the King of the Knob at Roaring Knob this year & Satterlee is leading the series points which is the same day as the World.

What does someone get for winning the Three state flyers points, is it worth not going to the world 100?
