A racer from Allentowns past from the late 1959 and early 60,s passed away. He raced a truck before Nascar even thought about it. I was lucky to get to know him in the last few months over the phone. He loved to talk old racing. Rest in peace Allan Dowler. Allan G. Dowler Posted: Friday, May 31, 2013 6:21 pm LIBERTY, Ind. Allan G. Dowler, 77, died May 29, 2013, at Reid Hospital, Richmond, Ind. Allan was born in Continental on Oct. 9, 1935 to Leroy and Kathryn Goddard Dowler and was a 1956 graduate of Continental High School. On Oct. 6, 1956, he was married in Kalida to the former Mary Elizabeth Plescher, and she survives. Allan retired in 1999 from Southside River Rail in Cincinnati. He previously had built and managed fertilizer manufacturing plants for Mid-Ohio Farm Service in Mt. Sterlingand Kaiser Agricultural Chemicals in Liberty, Ind. Allan had also been employed at Liberty Mills, Tekon Farm Service in Tekonsha, Mich. and Central State Seed and its predecessor, Lima Seed Company in Lima. Allan was an avid race car driver for many years racing dirt tracks in northern Ohio. He enjoyed boating on the weekends with his family, traveling and watching his grandchildren play sports. Survivors also include three children: Deborah Ann (Jerry) Dowler Bickford, of Elizabethtown, Kent., Carl L. (Melissa) Dowler, of Oxford, and Denise Marie (Fred) Dowler Fritz, of Cincinnati; three grandchildren: Allan Philip Dowler, Ashley Cecilia Dowler and Lillian Jane Fritz; his brother: Gary (Josie) Dowler, of Vera Beach, Fla.; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Allan was preceded in death in death by his sister: Carol Dowler Kessler. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty, Ind. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 to 2 p.m. Saturday where memorial contributions may be made to Adopt A Dog Fund in Liberty.
