Awesome!

What a badass Opperman was. When he did't have his helmet on, he always wore that ratty old leather Fedora. An American original. I don't know if there never a more talented dirt track driver than Jan, and most of the stuff he drove was, well, worn out.

Also saw Ziggy Snider in a downtube car, kind of unusual for the time. Great stuff, thanks for posting.

That ratty old fedora as you called it was one of Jan Opperman's most coveted possessions and his trademark. It had been worn by his brother, Jay, who died while racing a sprint car at Knoxville Raceway on May 16, 1970.

Calm down, Dutko. I didn't mean any disrespect and I full well knew the the story behind why he wore it.

One doesn't covet what he owns.

One also doesn't browbeat others whilst plagiarizing.

If at first you don't succeed, then maybe you just suck.

He usually doesn't get a twerk in his ovaries unless someone says somthing negative about MRP.  He must be getting crabbi(er) in his old age. In a dozen weeks or so, he can yell at everyone up at MRP over the mic and act like he owns the place, and all will be right with his world.

'Car and Track' covered a lot of races in the 70s, at a time when racing wasn't getting much coverage. Cool stuff there!!

When in doubt....GAS IT!!
