I'd say no changes means, no changes. Honestly I heard through the local grapevine that they are looking at going to a format like Sharon is using.

If they decide to do that, it was announced last Saturday in pits, they would rotate classes doing that. Was supposed to be 410"s turn this week.

They were thinking about 1 class per week time trialing thru the hot laps on a rotating basis. Pill draw would determine which smaller group you would go out in. Fastet 6 cars would qualify for a special heat race to determine the top 6 starting spots in the feature. Kinda like a dash. The rest of the cars would be lined up by times for their heat races. Mini stocks were not going to be in the rotation as they do not run transponders. No elimination of heat races.

That's not the worse thing in the world. In my opinion they should just use hot lap times to line up the heats every week. Invert 4 for the heats and then redraw the top 6 or 8 (top 2, 3, or 4 from each heat) and fill out the field by heat finish. Prevents rolling hazards from starting up front and causing havoc.

There is no truth to the rumor Mercer is elimnating heat races. Anybody who tells you that has no idea what they are talking about. This is totally about using times from hot laps to line up the heats instead of a pill draw. It was proposed by a couple sprint car drivers to use the same format as the Putsy Kekch Memorial last year on a weekly basis.

Sounds like a good plan to me. The slow guys are gonna oppose it, but they'll get over it. Your night should be determined by how you perform, not a good or shitty pill draw.

Not all cars go out for hot laps for various reasons.  It forces car owners to put wear and tear on their car, beyond what they may feel is needed or wanted.

Don't hot lap and start last then. Seems like anyone that is that worried about 3 extra laps should be starting last anyways, because they are probably one of the aforementioned rolling hazards.

Funny I can remember many of the areas top drivers being "rolling hazards" at one time or another.

Heck there are a few of the areas top drivers that never quit being "rolling hazards"......

Who in there right mind thinks it's a better idea to put cars that are a second + off the pace up front, just to be "fair"? The world isn't fair and if you can't qualify fast enough to start up front, you shouldn't be up there. You're not going to win, just tear someone's equipment up unnecessarily because you can't hold a line. It's incredibly idiotic that some of these guys think they should start on the pole. We aren't talking about guys that are a few tenths off in traffic, we're talking about guys that are a second or more off in open air.

the fans! who wants to watch the fastest car start on the pole ( especially sprint cars) ?  i like that some tracks make the previous weeks winner start 12th, that's good for the fans.

I'm a fan and I would rather watch the 5 or 6 fastest cars start up front and be able to race each other and not tear their shit up trying to pass the likes Sesco, Ruth, Kiley, McCracken and so on. All of those guys are a second or more off the pace and somehow find ways to start up front every week and cause havoc for the fast cars to pass. Guys spend way too much money to destroy their shit trying to get around a slow car. Nobody is saying to completly get rid of some kind of redraw. It's just ridiculous to redraw 12 cars when there's only 15 or 16. Redraw 6 or 8 in those situations, and everyone is happy.

Eric Williams 14.14
Francis Sesco 16.26
That's best lap from the feature winner (Williams), and the pole sitter (Sesco) last week. That's unsafe and nothing I want to see as a person who understands the finances and effort invested. For comparison the 305 winner ran a 15.3, 2 features later.

Well heck just run time trials, forget the heats, and run the feature heads up.

Heck that should pack the grandstands...

These pussified drivers of today couldn't have handled racing back in the day when they handicapped the fast/high point guys and they started towards the back along with the previous weeks winner starting dead last.

God forbid they have to earn that win.....

Exactly! How is being lucky at pulling a number from a hat earning anything?
