Well that will depend on the quality of parts you put into the motor. Here is a rough breakdown for you.
-Forged Rotating assembly with rings and bearings $2000
-Block prep $600
-Complete aftermarket heads $1200
-Intake $150
-Camshaft, lifters, pushrods, rockers, stud girdle, timing set $800
-Good oil pump, pickup, pan $250
-Misc Gaskets, bolts, covers, etc. $300
Total $5300 without and bolt-ons or labor included.
Now this is a engine that you will be able to turn 8000rpm's with and not be scared. By all means it can be done cheaper than this and has been very successfully. For the most part power is made in the top end, so you can go cheaper on the rotating assembly and save some money with the only sacrifice being durability.
For what it's worth I have a motor for this class for sale, doesn't have a lot of runs on it, complete with damper, water pump and pulleys. PM me for details.
