GREAT NIGHT OF RACING AT RACEWAY 7 FOR THE HOMAK PENN OHIO PRO STOCK CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES - - BOBBY WHITLING WALKS AWAY WITH THE $1,000 WIN OVER THE 42 CAR FIELD!
For Immediate Release
July 15, 2017 (Sandy Lake, PA) Forty-two stock cars were on hand to compete in the $1,000 to-win event at Raceway 7 on Friday night. After many rained out events for tracks and the Series, Mother Nature finally cooperated and provided a beautiful night for some great racing action. Homak Penn Ohio Pro Stock Championship Series’ Member, Bobby Whitling of Seneca, PA, parked his #7W slider chassis in victory lane after leading the A Main 20-lap event from green to checker.
After hot lap sessions, five heat races proved to be exciting racing action for the fans. Heat race winners were Mike Clark #7; Ryan Newman #12; Tim Deutsch #20; Rusty Martz #16M; and Bobby Whitling #7W. The top four drivers from each heat advanced to the A Main feature, with the top two participating in a redraw for feature starting position.
Two B Mains gave drivers another opportunity to make the Main event with the top 2 from each B Main advancing. Winners of the B Mains were Bill Hurrelbrink #c8 and Chris McGuire #63. The two drivers who advanced to the A Main through provisionals were Brian Rhed #69R for Penn Ohio and Jimmy Kennerknecht #18K for the track provisional.
Leading the 26 car field to the green in the twenty lap feature were Whitling and Jamie Duncan #67J. Whitling was out in front of Duncan entering turn two but the caution flag would fly quickly for fourth-starter, Deutsch’s #20 spinning in turn 2 at the start. When racing resumed, Whitling again had the lead while Rusty Martz claimed the 2nd spot from Duncan. With only one lap in, the caution would wave for slowed cars on the backstretch entering turn 3. Shaun Fawcett’s #224 and Rod Laskey’s #1R would exit to the pit area not to return, while Jackson Humanic #17 pitted for a flat and was able to return before racing resumed.
A Delaware restart gave Whitling the sole spot in the front with Martz and Duncan in tow, followed by Newman and Bobby Heim #92. Drivers were able to complete two more laps before the third caution of the race slowed racing action for Don McGuire’s #630. Under the yellow, Fuzzy Fields #28 and Rob Shook #64 made their way to the pits with Shook retiring for the night and Fuzzy Fields returning for more racing action.
With three laps complete, Whitling would lead the cars to another restart and maintain the lead over Martz, Duncan, Rusty Moore #17M, and Russ Byler #06R rounding out the top five. However a fourth caution flag would fly on lap 7 for McGuire’s #630 on the front stretch entering turn 1. The drivers would get one more lap in before the last caution flag of the event flew for Joe Stajnrajh’s #04.
Racing action was heating up and would find cars swapping positions throughout the field each lap, but Whitling was smooth in his #7W for the remaining caution-free twelve laps. Moore would come from the ninth spot to capture second from Duncan and hard-charger, Randy Wyant #11T, at the flagman. Martz held on for fifth over Newman, Deutsch, Leigh Wheeler #717, Paul Davis #3, and Chris McGuire #63 rounding out the top ten, respectively.
Contingency prizes awarded went to: Bobby Whitling, Hoosier Tire from Precise Racing & Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic; Chris McGuire, American Racer Tire from Lias Tire; Randy Wyant advancing 12 positions, $50 Hard Charger from Dirt Diggin’ Chassis; Jimmy Kennerknecht, $25 Certificate from Big Daddy’s Speed Center; Bobby Whitling, racing rim from S S Chassis; Tim Deutsch, $100 certificate Close Racing Products; Curt Bish #00, case of oil from Les Frickshun; Rusty Moore, $75 certificate Genesis Shocks; Paul Davis, $50 certificate from Schoenfeld Headers; Nick Kocuba, $25 certificate from ARbodies; Bobby Heim, $25 certificate from Big Daddy’s; Leigh Wheeler, $25 certificate from Wedge Motorsports; Gary Fisher, $25 gift card from Precise Racing Products; Jesse Brock, fuel jug from Precise Racing Products; Andy Buckley, wheel cover from Dirt Defender.
