BOBBY WHITLING SCORES WIN #4 IN 2017 HOMAK PENN OHIO SERIES AT MCKEAN COUNTY RACEWAY FALL CLASSIC!

For Immediate Release

October 1, 2017 (Sandy Lake, PA) Car counts continue to remain prevalent for the Homak Penn Ohio Series’ events in 2017.  The Fall Classic at Mckean County Raceway was no different with 39 cars in competition for Saturday’s portion of the event.  The weather held true to the event name “Fall Classic” with fall-like temperatures throughout the day and evening.  The 25 lap feature event kept fans warm with intense racing action, only two caution flags and lapped traffic playing a factor.  Bobby Whitling #7W, aka The Seneca Slider, was able to hold off the persistent efforts of Andrew Gordon #25.  Whitling captured the $1,000 win and his fourth Homak Penn Ohio Series’ win in 2017.

Four heat races had drivers battling for the top five spots in each heat to advance to the A Main with the top two participating in a redraw to determine starting position for the A Main.  Heat race winners were Bob McMillen #50, Jeremy Wonderling #42, Curt Bish #29, and Allen English #64.  Two B Mains gave drivers one last chance to drive their way into the A Main.  Winners were Curt Bish #00B and Luke Rutsky #22.  Penn Ohio Series’ provisional was granted to Rusty Moore #17M and track provisional went to Victor Earle #00E.

The redraw had Whitling in the pole position with Bob Schwartzmiller #28S to his outside.  The two competitors led the field of 26 cars to the green for the 25 lap A Main.  Whitling powered his way through turn one and two and would lead lap one over Schwartzmiller.  The two remained one and two while fourth-starter, Wonderling advanced to third and fifth-starter, Gordon moved to fourth.  The first caution flag slowed action after the completion of lap four.

Whitling found himself out front in the Delaware style restart pairing Schwartzmiller and Wonderling in the second row on the start.  Wonderling and Gordon were able to use the start to their advantage capturing the second and third spots from Schwartzmiller, respectively.    Schwartzmiller would hold onto fourth over McMillen, while Gordon battled Wonderling for second.  On lap 7, Gordon was able to make the pass on Wonderling, giving him an opportunity to reel Whitling in for a chance at the lead.  It appeared that lap traffic may be a factor for the leader and Gordon when the second and final caution of the race flew right before leaders crossed at the flagstand.

Again, the Delaware restart allowed Whitling to have the front row to himself while Gordon and Wonderling followed in row 2.  The restart was not favorable for Gordon as Wonderling was able to power his way on the outside to take over the second spot on lap 12.  Gordon would quickly regain his momentum though and take back the position on lap 13.  Gordon was able to reel Whitling in and both would battle lap traffic for the last five laps.  Whitling’s maintained a smooth, consistent run and parked his Seneca Slider Chassis in victory lane for the $1,000 Homak Penn Ohio Series’ win.

Gordon finished in the runner up spot with front end damage and had to be towed across the scales. Wonderling held onto the third position, Rusty Martz #16M came from the 15th starting position to finish fourth and Curt Bish #29 rounded out the top five.  Randy Wyant #11T came home in sixth, Jason Fosnaught #73 in seventh, Leigh Wheeler #717 in eighth, Schwartzmiller in ninth, and Luke Rutsky #22 rounded out the top ten.

The Series will be back in action for the final race of the 2017 Season for the Pittsburgher 100 on Friday, October 6 and Saturday, October 7.  It is a $1,500 to-win show and will be the last race for the touring series points as well as the “M&T Allison Construction Segment Two Shoot-out” worth $1,000 to-win.
