I was at Lernerville the night Don Martin opened the place in September of 1967!!! And I would just leave things the way they are!!! One exception, I would change the rules some to open the Pro-Stocks back up to the open engine cars. The crate engine cars are not getting any new ones!! There has not been a Pro-Stock car there all year that wasn't there last year and most the year before. NO ROOKIES in the class!! Make the rules so both crate and open engine cars are competitive!! There are only 16 drivers on the point list and one of them was only there once!! As for the Late Models, this is class problem, not a Lernerville problem. They are forcing themselves out of business cost wise!! But there are a lot of Late Model fans out there you would loose if you replaced them with a "limited" Sprint Car class!!
Who knows with Roaring Knob!! Worst track in the western PA area when it comes to communicating with competitors, fans and the media!!! Never sends anything out to the media and doesn't keep their website updated!!!
Very true!!! I did PR for Mercer for a couple of years way back in the 70s. Had to type up a story on a ditto mat, run them off, stuff them in envelopes and then take them to the post office on Sunday afternoon. Had to use Special Delivery stamps to get them to the trade papers like AARN and NSSN in time!!! Now the PR guy can type up a story, click on a couple of buttons and email it out to many different media outlets!! Track doesn't even have to pay for stamps!!! Personally, I think several tracks are just too "cheap" to pay someone to write the story or even just send the results with no story!!
How could Mercer run RUSH Modifieds on Saturday nights with Vickie's strong ties to Sharon?? Edward Michaels and Stan Lester made a good move here!! Just hope that there are enough crate engine Modifieds for both to get decent fields!!!
It appears that Latrobe is not sending out releases to the media!! I had to get results from a fellow media member who writes for one of the local papers in the Latrobe area!! Maybe the "new" guys there don't even know what a Press Release is!!!
Correct!! Lernerville has a "problem" that other racks don't have, they have many fans that come so they can see all three top classes, but also many that might stop coming if one of the classes was dropped to raise the purse for the other two. Sort of between a rock and a hard place!! Most of you know that there are many Sprint Car fans who wouldn't walk across the street to see a Late Model race and there are Late Model fans that feel the same way about the Sprint Cars. Both seem to "accept" the big block Modifieds. Western PA is sort of in the unique position as being about the only area in the country that has all three running weekly at several tracks.
Blanket Hill was an excellent track to go to back in the 60s!! Sprint Cars and the old coupes, went there fairly often. Ran on Sunday nights. The track was built as a paved track in the early 1950s and then changed over to dirt. I saw a race or two as a paved track back in my grade school days. Harry Hein and Don Bailey may be the only living former drivers who raced there on pavement?? I have actual dates in a book if anyone wants such!!
