By SkinnyKennysPhotos After being rained out on May 3rd, Waynesfield Motorsports Park returned to racing action On Saturday May 10th with four classes of racers competing on the high banked clay race track. Heavy rains throughout the week provided a big challenge to Cub Burden but he did another excellent job by preparing an awesome racing surface for the races and fans. The 600cc mini-sprints saw Jared Horstman drive a flawless race to lead almost every lap of the feature. Opening night winner Devon Dobie #23 tried to keep pace with Horstman but by the time the race ended, Horstman had almost a full straight away lead over the 2nd place car. #9 Kevin Wills finished in the 3rd spot behind Horstman and Dobie. The Waynesfield Tuff Trucks were the next racing class to make their run for the money on the night. #26 Jessica Nuss and #26g Gabe Twining fought an incredible battle for the lead until the two trucks rubbed together on lap 15 resulting in a flat tire for Nuss and the caution flag waved. Twining restarted in the lead and was able to finish the rest of the race at the point to claim his 2nd win of the young season at Waynesfield. #R27 Randy Crossley finished in the 2nd spot as #71 Chris Hicks came home 3rd. #9c Bill Harman came from his near the tail starting spot to finish the feature in 4th place after winning the B-main to qualify for the feature. #7 Darren Long had a front row starting spot in his 360 sprint car and and he continued his hot start to the season. Long led every lap at Waynesfield to bring home his 1st win at the track. Jr Stewart drove his white #6s sprinter to a strong 2nd place showing with #34 Luke Hall scoring his second 3rd place finish at Waynesfield this year. Rick Boughan was the winner of the sprint car B-main event. The UMP Modifieds made their 1st appearance of this year at Waynesfield and thrilled the fans with incredible 3 wide racing in the feature. Bill Keeler took the lead early and started to check out on the rest of the field until he spun sideways and came to a stop in turn two. Another racer was unable to avoid Keelers machine and the resulting collision sent him to the pits for the rest of the race. The restart set up a 4 car battle for the lead between Stan Smith, Daryl Banks, Andy Bibler, and Josh Lolmaugh. As the laps were counting down in the race, Banks, Lolmaugh, and Bibler ran lap after lap in a 3 wide battle that kept the fans on their feet. The drivers showed tremendous skill while running side by side by side for multiple laps without ever touching each other. As the checkered flag waved, Banks squeezed out the win with Lolmaugh being credited for 2nd place and Bibler earning 3rd. Waynesfield will continue racing on Sunday May 18th with the tracks 1st ever Late Model show. Also on the event card will be stock cars, UMP Modifieds, the Waynesfield Tuff Trucks. Racing will begin one hour earlier for this Sunday show with the 1st race set to start at 6:00pm.

It's pretty hard to attend EVERY Sprint Car race in the country. Just trying to include all Waynesfield's racers as well as every sprint car race in www.openwheeltimes.com database.

Mike....sorry I didn't see your location until after I posted...lol Goober....I know that with the Chevy's that handeling is the biggest advantage that they have and it's also the key to success. That's pretty apparent if you and Jessica were running for the win together! The nice thing about the Chevy is the adjustability in the front end geometry is just like the stock and mods. On a Ford you have to cut and move things to get the geometry correct. Going to the Toyota was a not so favorable thing for me simply because I didn;t make the right choices on setting up the torsion bar suspension on it..........and there was no spring adjustments to make. If I would've stuck with the Chevy last year I would've been in much better shape......but hindsight is 20/20...lol Now that I'm out of racing I'm having the time of my life actually getting projects done on my home on the weekends and spending the weekends with my kids rather than prepping a truck to race. I'll make it out there sometime to see all of you. Everyone in the truck class was really fun to race with even if we had our moments.........you guys especially were a treat to see every week! Good luck the rest of the season!

hey goober to me it looked like your car was a little slow on taking off on restarts. thats where jessica would gain on you. But after you got going it seemed to be all right. still a good job.

I seem to recall an engine that I used to have that was the same way on restarts about three years ago......what was that called........Iron.....Iron.......hmm it slipped my mind =) Most Chevy's (4 cylinders) area a little sluggish on restarts anyway. The fords are really poppy on restarts...last year Hicks would start the race in what seemed like first gear and I 'm not sure what rear gear he was running but he had a pretty good launch on restarts. The Chevy's should get through the corners better though.
