Story by SkinnyKennysPhotos: After a scheduled week off at Waynesfield Motorsports Park, the 1/4 mile high banked dirt bullring returned to action on Saturday July 19th. Four classes of cars filled the pits and even waited out a 45 minute rain delay after hotlaps to begin the racing program. The rain helped keep the track tacky and fast all night long. Even with the delay early in the night, the fans were treated to a complete race program finishing a few minutes after 11:00pm. The Waynesfield Tuff Trucks were the first class to take to the track for their feature event. The inversion draw put two time winner Gabe Twining starting near the front. He was able to grab the lead on the 1st lap and run there for the caution free 20 lap race. The win would not come easy for Twining as he was hounded for 18 laps by Randy Crossley. With only 2 laps till the finish, Gabe's brother Matt Twining got past Crossley and began to apply the pressure in a family affair. The brothers were side by side on the final lap with Gabe edging out Matt for the win and Randy Crossley finishing 3rd. Matt Twining parked his race truck near victory lane and was the 1st member of the family to congradulate his brother on the hard fought victory. They were all smiles as the family gathered in victory lane for a family picture. Truck heats were won by Matt Twining, Bill Keeler, Crossley, and Ralph Shackelford. Buzz Jacobs won the b-main for the trucks. The non-wing sprint cars took on the track for what turned into a mini-marathon of a race. A red flag and multiple yellow flags during the feature caused the race to take awile to finish. The final restart of the race came with 3 laps to go and quickly brought the fans to their feet for an extremely exciting finish. Mike Miller was at the point followed by Matt Westfall and Mike Brecht when the green flag waved. Miller put his car on the bottom groove in an attempt to hold off Westfall. 3rd place runner Mike Brecht decided the high side of the track was the only opening to try a pass. Brecht was able to get around Westfall and take one shot at Miller heading for the checkers. As the two racers raced thru turn 4, they were side by side and drag racing to the finish line. Miller seemed to get a little more traction on the bottom and beat Brecht to the finish line by a half car length as Westfall hung on to finish 3rd. Miller, Brecht, and Joss Moffatt won the sprint heat races and Lee Stark won the sprint b-main. The 600cc Mini-Sprints were the next class to take on the high banks during their feature race. #20 Jared Horstman grabbed the lead at the begining and pulled away from the rest. Horstman lead all 20 laps to add another win to his resume. Garry Loney ran a strong race to finish in the runner up spot at Waynesfield. The best battle on the track in this event was for 3rd spot. Previous winners Todd Keen and Devon Dobie traded places all race long with Keen finally earning the 3rd finishing spot. Horstman was also the mini-sprint heat winner. The UMP Modifieds were the final racing event of the night. Darryl Banks has had some bad luck during his last two races at Waynesfield but tonight he would shake that monkey off his back. Banks was able to lead nearly every lap of the feature and hold off everyone to get his 1st feature win at Waynesfield this season. The race finish proved to be a wild one. After Banks crossed the finish line, contact between the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place cars resulted in them sliding sideways and spinning to a stop just past the finish line. The track was almost completely blocked as the rest of the pack came charging to the finish line. Some of the racers found a hole to get thru the mess while others slammed into the crash. As Banks was posing for his victory lane photos, the track wreckers were busy trying to seperate the front straight carnage. Eddie Shaner was credited with 2nd, Brian Post was 3rd, and Matt Westfall finished 4th with all of their cars getting some damage in the crash. Post, Shaner, and Jon Henry were the UMP Modified heat winners. Waynesfield Motorsports Park will continue the weekly racing this coming Saturday night with Non-wing sprints, trucks, 600cc mini-sprints, and UMP modifieds.

Look out Gabe....3 wins in one season will turn the spotlight your way.....lol Just kidding buddy. I'm 100% positive that you've really worked on the handling of the truck and that's what it takes! I hope you have many more and how good does it get when it's between you and your brother on the final lap..........priceless!!

I will bet that Dan Crowder in the 43 truck is feeling a little sore today. That was a bit of a nasty. he had to go over about 4 times. Hope he is able to get it back together and feeling better.

Kenny , Thats my second win this year at the field. Banks 2b

Sorry Mr Banks! I definately meant no disrespect. 5/10/08 just seems like it has been a year ago. The story that I wrote today was kinda done in a little bit of a rush because I was heading to the races in Findlay. Look at it this way, Mid American Racing News usually tries to print the photos of 1st time winners so that might increase you chances in this weeks paper. But those women who run the paper probably have a better memory than I do. I knew that you won at Oakshade but I truelly forgot about your win at Waynesfield. Unfortunately the story has already gone out to all the news media. I promise to get win #3 right.
Check out www.tristateracingreport.com It is Jerry Wahls website. He writes the column called "Dayton Chatter" in Mid American. He said he is posting your pic.

Don't worry Mike I won't be at the races this week so you still have a chance. hehe I just hope you and your brother won't pick on Matt again while I'm not around to protect my big brother. I'm kinda lost this week without having to put the truck together again I don't know what I'm gonna do. Hey Kenny I thought Sam Casey led the first two laps?? Mike is their anyway I could get a copy of that tape, my brother forgot his camera, I gotta take care of everything on this team(even all the wins) I'm having a great year, it really helps to get lucky breaks on starting positions, three time in one season that the inversion worked out in my favor. Their has got to be 75% fast trucks this year, and I think their getting better every stinking week! I would also like to say good job to Tim, 15th to 6th with no cautions, I'm just glad we only run 20 laps because I don't think I couldve held on for any more. See yall in two weeks. Anyone heard anything about milstream??

I got some pics of the trucks racing but none with you brothers together. He only got beside you on the last lap or so and I was busy setting up for the victory lane shots by then. I try my best but I can't do everything at once. While looking thru my camera for the perfect shot to please everyone, I usually miss seeing something that should be in the results story(like who led the 1st 2 laps). I also try to take racing photos quickly so that I can always see whats coming towards me on the track in case I need to run. And sometimes I just forget that I am holding a camera when the "race fan" in me sees a good battle brewing on the track and I watch those cars for a few laps. It would be alot different if I had a wall or pole to stay behind for protection but I do my best to get some picks and not get run over and hope I remember enough to write an acurate story the next day.

Yeah I needed one more lap, or a better draw for the a main since no body in the race could wreck or blow up. Damn the trucks are getting good! I will hold it down for you this week Gabe. And yes, if Tim finished better in his heat he would have made some big noise in the main. See you all this week.

Thanks for the encouragement Mike, Im thinkin about runnin the 'B' MAIN next week maybe I can win that one?!
It seem that every time I get the motor runnin strong the track isnt the way I like it.Every time I like the track the motor
doesnt like me.Gabe and Matt drove a pretty good race and Tim was on the move! I think you need to slap Chris
before each race ..... when he got mad he was mad fast on 3 tires!lol "dude was focused for sure"

Maybe if you had gotten the perfsct pic of me and my brother on the last lap.hehe I think your doing a great job with the pics and the reporting. I do have a truck you can run, its missing the front suspension right fr fender, rear axle, and fr bumper. other than that its race ready. Thanks for trying with the tape Mike. From what your dad said me and your brother are in the same boat with our jobs causing us to miss races. Gotta work to go racing, cant race cause working.
