story by SkinnyKennysPhotos 5/2/09 Waynesfield(Ohio) Raceway Park received plenty of rain over the last week. Promoter Dean Miracle didn't let that stop him. Many would have just given up and waited for next week but not Dean. He had the staff at Waynesfield Raceway Park work their tails off to get everything in place for a great night of racing. The damp dirt track surface provided the racers with lots of traction and lightning fast lap times. Keeping the track surface smooth and rut free required some attention but the track held up suprisingly well givin the weather. The UMP Modifieds had Brian Post, Zach Schroeder, and Mike Hohlbein starting the night off with heat race wins. Brent Hole earned his way into the feature lineup by winning the B-main. The feature lined up with Jeff Babcock in the front row and He quickly pulled away from the field when the race began. Todd Sherman worked his way into the 2nd position and began to narrow Babcock's lead. Midway thru the race, a yellow flag slowed the racers and put Sherman bumper to bumper behind Babcock. When the race resumed, Sherman wasted little time getting around Babcock and began to pull away. Another caution flag slowed the racers with just 4 laps to go in the race. While the track was being cleared, Todd Sherman went pitside to change a rear tire that lost air. This put Babcock back in the lead the hard charging Doug Adkins was lined up in 4th. As the green waved to restart the race, Adkins immediately went to the highside and charged into the runner up position. Adkins caught Babcock and tried to pass on the top of the track with just 2 laps to go. The cars ran side by side for the final 2 laps of the race. As they raced into the final turn, Adkins tried the bottom of the track and exited the final turn door to door with Babcock. The 2 cars crossed the finish line together in a photo finish. Both drivers slowed on the track and waited for the official ruling from upstairs. Babcock was scored the race winner by just a few inches over Adkins with Tony Anderson finishing 3rd. The Waynesfield Tuff Trucks were the next racing class to do battle on the high banks. Matt Twining, Chris Hicks, and Derrick Noffsinger earned the heat race wins while Darryl Brackney won the B-main. The Twining family had started the season off in a big way with Matt winning back to back truck features last weekend. Brother Gabe was lucky enough to have a front row starting position for tonights feature. Gabe Twining jumped ahead of the other racers and held that lead until the final 3 laps of the race. At this time, brother Matt rubbed his way into the 1st position. The two brothers fought a war during the last couple of laps. As they were being given the white flag, Gabe Twining made contact with his brother which resulted in Matt spinning into the infield and out of the lead. Gabe Twining came away with the controversial win as brother in law Tim Dick followed in 2nd and Derrick Noffsinger finished in 3rd. The brothers had no hard feelings as they both gathered in victory lane with the rest of the family to celebrate another Twining truck feature win. The NRA Sprint Invaders came to Waynesfield to compete in their winged 360 sprint cars. Tonight would have a couple vistitors showing up at Waynesfield to try to steal the money. Chad Kemenah and Tim Hunter joined the NRA regulars at Waynesfield to compete. Heat wins went to JR Stewart, Dennis Yoakam, and Tim Allison. Scott Carter recorded the B-main win. When the A-main feature fired off, it became clear that Tim Hunter was here for the money. Hunter grabbed the lead in the beginning of the race and looked unstoppable. A late race caution flag put Tim Allison on Hunter's rear bumper with just 2 laps remaining. As the green flag restarted the race, Allison used a slide job to get underneath Hunter and take the lead. Hunter got "up on the wheel" and battled his way back into the lead and went on to his 1st win at Waynesfield Raceway Park. JR Stewart put a slide job on Tim Allison during the last lap to steal the runner up position dropping Allison into a 3rd place finish. The local economy seems to be taking a tole on the local stock car racing. Just a few short years ago, a track would expect over 30 cars in competion every week in the stock car class. This season however, a track seems lucky to get a full field of 20 cars per week. 18 Stock cars passed thru the gate at Waynesfield tonight and they thrilled the fans with side by side competion. Barney Craig, and Jeff Babcock were your heat race winners. At feature time, Tony Anderson and Jeff Babcock kept the fans on the edges of their seats as they raced door to door for the lead at Waynesfield. These 2 drivers passed under the flagstand within inches of each other for the final 8 laps of the feature. It is amazing to see these drivers compete so fiercely and never make contact during all of those laps. Babcock was able to get the win over Anderson and Barney Craig. We will be racing at Waynesfield Raceway Park on Saturday May 9th. Non-Wing Sprints, Tuff Trucks, Stock Cars, and 600cc Mini-Sprints will be competing. Bring the family out for a night of entertainment. Dirt Track Racings Best Kept Secret is Out!! www.waynesfieldmotorsportspark.com

Kenny, I think things will improve a lot as the season progresses. Had a group of stockers that ran lima, eldora, and other tracks. I think a lot of them that didn't show were not there because of the previous weeks rain and just didn't come. Barr usually comes, and a few others. They had Tony, Post, Jeff, Cornett, etc. Just give it a little time. Great racing Saturday!!

My car owner only wants to run Eldora this year. Plus on the weekends we are not racing Eldora. My son Ryan is racing. We may get up there a few times to watch, I always loved the track and wish we could race, but I have to respect the car owner. Thanks Chad Barr

We were planning on running the full schedule, but due to my upcoming back surgery we will be out for a while. As soon as the doctors release me we will be back at Waynesfield. Until then we will be spectating. Just want to say that Dean and everyone at Waynesfield are doing a great job! Cant wait to get back out there. Weasel Phlipot #52 and #88
