Wilson Dominates Limaland’s NRA vs. SOD Showdown Greg Wilson calls Limaland Motorsports Park his home track. Nothing makes a guy like Wilson happier than to put a spanking on his competitors when he shows up to defend his home turf. The much-anticipated NRA vs. SOD showdown drew 39 teams from several states and Canada as they battled for the big check and bragging rights for their respective racing series during the 11th Annual Memorial Cup. Wilson’s impressive win was, in some ways, overshadowed by Jeff Babcock. For the second time this year, Jeff Babcock won the Bud Thunderstock and Professional Computer Company Modified features. His win in the Thunderstocks was his third in a row! To say his accomplishments so far this year have been historical would be an understatement. When one considers the level of competition Babcock faces every Friday night, his efforts are almost Herculean! The sprint car main event pitted the best drivers from two competing series. The ASCS Sprints on Dirt and the Engine Pro NRA Sprint Invaders were both well represented for the 25-lap feature. Tim Allison and Aaron Smith took the green flag from Jon Burden but by the second corner, it was clearly the Greg Wilson show as he blasted by the front row cars and rocketed off into the sunset. Behind Wilson, Dale Blaney, Canadian Alain Bergerom, JR Stewart, and Ben Rutan raced their way into the top five. The race went green to checkers and when the thunderous roar of the engines subsided, the crowd erupted letting all the drivers know how much they appreciated the thrilling show. The Bud Thunderstocks hit the track next and Jeff Babcock had the pole. The first ten laps had Babcock out front comfortably, while Tim Bowen and Tony Anderson squabbled over second place. A red flag for an altercation involving Justin Long, Pete Zuppardo, and Andy King halted the action and erased Babcock’s lead over Bowen. The final five laps were mistake-free for Babcock as he notched his third consecutive division victory. The Professional Computer Company Modified division has had two winners in three races. Todd Sherman won the first and third races of the year; Jeff Babcock was the second race victor. Babcock had to be pinching himself when he rolled onto the track on the pole again! Outside of him was Andy Bibler who won the last two Memorial Cup titles. A lap three caution was the result of a spin by a hard-charging Todd Sherman. Babcock had the race pace just where he wanted it until a caution on lap fifteen. That allowed Doug St. Myers to restart on Babcock’s bumper. During the final five laps, St. Myers inched his car up the inside of Babcock coming out of turn four. On the final lap, St. Myers managed to show a nose to Babcock but Jeff was not going to be denied. At the checkers it was Babcock, St. Myers, Steve Schnapt (Team UNOH), Terry Hull, and Andy Bibler. This Friday, Limaland Motorsports Park presents the 2009 edition of Modified Mayhem featuring the Professional Computer Company Modifieds, Elwer Fence Sprints, and Bud Thunderstocks. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. with hot laps beginning at 6:30 p.m. Racing begins promptly at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the 21st Annual Brad Doty Classic, featuring the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, are on sale now.
