A couple years ago(might of been when Haud won) when Wilson ran the Doty at Limaland he started pretty far back in the line up. He went right to the very highside and was rim-riding. He was passing so many cars that he looked like he was going twice as fast as most of the WOO guys. I think he had gotten into about 3rd position when he hit the wall in turn 3 and his night was over. He may even have rolled it over I'm not exactly sure. But if you were there to see it, you had to notice just how fast he was going to the front.
At the seasons end, somebody wrote a column in Mid American that listed the 10 best racing memories of that year. I think it was Jerry Wahl in his "Dayton Chatter" column that I read it. But anyway he had "Wilson's run at the Doty" listed in his top 10 memories of the year. That night ended in a crash for him but it was a super impressive run thru the pack of the best sprint racers and cars in the world. He was running much faster than the leaders and no doubt he would have caught them if he hadn't crashed.
I'm not a giant Wilson fan but if you were at that race you surely wouldn't be here saying that he has to start on the pole for a chance to win. He started at the back and definately put on a show that night.
