I saw a compact for sale today when I went to Urbana. It has a roll cage and a nice alumium racing seat(I think it is a Butler-built seat but not sure.) They raced it using the stock gas tank but I would rather see guys use fuel cells. It was pretty beat up and definately not pretty. Both bumpers looked to have been used alot. I'm not sure what kinda car it is but it has an Acura steering wheel. It had a piece of plywood in front of it that says $500. I thought it said $300 from the road so I turned around to check it out. There wasn't a phone number and nobody was home. I'm not going back because I really don't want it. If it would have had a real fuel cell, I would maybe have bought it just to re-sell or maybe play with some times. I'm not totally sure but I don't think fuel cells are a requirement at the "Field." I never talked to anyone so I don't know if the $500 in negotiable or not. If you want to check it out here is where it is at. Route 36, about 20 miles East of Piqua is a little 1 light town called Westville. There is a flashing traffic light in the center of the town. Go North from the light and it is only maybe a mile outside of Westville. Car is setting on the East side of the road in front of a mobile home that somebody lives in. The car is only like 10 feet off the road. Just keep your eyes open because it is not a bright color and the door numbers don't really stand out. If you want to start racing cheap, This might be right what you are looking for. You could Not buy a seat like that and have a cage put in your own car for $500. If you want to call me its 419-234-1208 or see me at the track.

Fuel cells WITH bladders should be mandatory in any division. An indiana mini sprint driver recently sat in his car on fire for five minutes. He had no bladder in his tank.

These Hondas will not run right with just a fuel cell. They require alot more fuel pressure.

I bet guys would figure out a way to make em run right if fuel cells were mandatory. Im all for keeping an entry level class as affordable as possible, but the fuel cell is one area that no one should skimp on, regardless of the class of car.

Just my 2 cents

Hey Compact Racers, PLEASE consider putting the fuel cells in your cars. We don't want anybody to be example why they should have put a fuel cell in their car. The expense of this would be minimal compared to a helicopter ride to a burn unit.

I'm going to try one to see if i can get it to work cant do it this week but I got a cell and am reseaching for a pump.I will say I've seen to cars with them before but they had no fire wall between it and the driver and with a electric fuel pump that scared me more. The good thing about the stock set up on hondas anyway is that if they dont build pressure imediatly they shut off. Maybe some of the truck guys could help i know some of them ran fuel injection in the past. I dont know if they still do.

I know at Advance auto they had a universal fuel pump that did 120psi but not sure what is does for volume and if I remember right it was kind of pricey but might be an option. I know they had some others that went up towards 45- 50 psi, not sure what the cars need but the newer Chevy Blazers and S-10s were about 50psi to get the started then needed about 35 to run.

On our truck we ran a mechanical fuel pump for this safety issue. But when we blew our motor this year we went to an electric fuel pump and installed a fuel shut off that once there's not enough oil pressure the pump shuts off. Very simple to install and inexpensive. If people don't have some sort of auto shut off besides thinking that after a bad crash you're gonna reach up and shut off the main switch, you should seriously consider adding one. It's not only for you but for the safety of others as well if you're tangled up with them. Last thing ya want to do is burn yourself and possible others up because ya didn't have the $20 to be safe. ;)

I wasn't trying to stir up anything here. But in my opinion, I wish they all had fuel cells. I have 2) 12 year old boys and it is very possible that we might have a compact racing in a few years. I just wouldn't even consider letting my kids race without a cell. And I would definately be checking out the other cars on the track before I put my kids out there with them. Not only for my families safety but the chance of my kid causing a life threatening injury to somebody else who's car is not safe is just something I won't be part of. I've spent most of my 40 year life enjoying racing. And I hope my kids grow up loving it the way I do. I'm glad that I wasn't at Eldora the night we lost Jimmy. I'm not sure I could have continued to be involved in racing as much as I am if I would have actually seen JJ's crash. The funeral was hard enough. I can still hear Hank Zimpfer's screaming from his pain because I was right beside the car when the safety crew got him out. I just tell myself that his screaming was a good thing because it could have been worse. I raced on the lowest budget possible and still remember when they changed our helmet requirement from DOT to Snell. I complained that those cost as least $300. The track told me that if my head & life weren't worth $300 then I need to find another hobby. They were right!!

i remember that night at waynesfield. it was my 1st or 2nd time there and was probably by far one of the worst crashes i have ever seen.
