Chris Hicks And Dan Hennig Take First Win At Limaland
Friday night proved to be a night of firsts at Limaland Motorsports Park. The V8 Racetrucks took on the Bud Thunderstocks. The 4 Cylinder Tuff Trucks made their first appearance of the year on the famed high-banks. Plus, the most competitive division at Limaland, the Professional Computer Company Modifieds, continued the championship battle as the season wraps up in style. In the end, there would be two first-time winners.
Todd Sherman began the evening with a 4-point lead over Jeff Babcock in the Professional Computer Company Modified division. The starting lineup for the feature had Sherman on the pole and Babcock starting seventh. Sherman jumped out to an early lead until a yellow flag flew on lap four for a two-car spin in turn four. Sherman found Andy Bibler on his bumper for the restart followed by Brian Post, Jeff Babcock, and Schuyler Nahre. Babcock was able to move his way to second but never showed the speed or handling to get around Sherman. The race stayed green until the checkers flew. Rounding out the top five was Bibler, Post, and Terry Hull.
The V8 Trucks vs. Bud Thunderstock feature was the second feature of the evening. Mark Hiatt and Jeff Babcock brought the field to the green flag. Babcock pushed to the early lead and Jeff Koz was on the prowl in second. These two drivers got together last week while racing towards the front and this week was a repeat performance. Coming off turn four, Koz got a nose under Babcock and contact cut down Babcock’s left rear tire resulting in a yellow flag on lap five to get Babcock’s car off an infield tire. Racing resumed with Koz at the point and eventual race winner, Dan Hennig, in third. Hennig picked-off Tony Anderson for second and moved past Koz with a handful of laps remaining as he cruised to his first win at Limaland Motorsports Park.
The Tuff Trucks hit the track last but the show was worth the wait. Buzz Jacobs, who has years of experience in a modified at Limaland, led the twenty-car field to the start of the race. Chris Hicks made quick work of the four trucks ahead of him as he surged to the lead. While Hicks was lengthening his advantage, Matt Twining was hoping for a caution to slow the pace. The caution never came and Hicks dominated the trucks’ annual mecca to Ohio’s ¼-mile of Thunder.
This Friday, Limaland Motorsports Park will hold the final race of the season! The much-anticipated Championship Night will crown four series victors in the Elwer Fence Sprints, Bud Thunderstocks, Engine Pro NRA Sprint Invaders, and the Professional Computer Company Modifieds. As if that isn’t enough excitement for one night, Limaland Motorsports Park will also hold its annual King of the Quarter-Mile races for the 2009 weekly division winners. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. with hot laps beginning at 6:30 p.m. Racing begins promptly at 7:30 p.m. All the latest news and information about America’s premier quarter-mile dirt track can be found at www.limaland.com.
