The cool clowdy weather help make for a heavy fast racetrack for the non-wing sprint cars, mini-sprints, tuff trucks, and compacts. The tuff trucks were the 1st to compete on the dirt high banks. Chris Hicks grabbed the lead when the race began and started to run away from the rest of the field. A red flag brought the trucks to a stop and erased Hicks' lead. When the race got back underway, Matt Twining had moved towards the front and had Hicks in his crosshairs. Chris Hicks seems to be getting faster every week but Twining has dominated the tuff truck class this season. It was only a matter of time before Twining fought his way past Hicks and went on to another win. Hicks held on to finish in 2nd with Dan Crowder doing a great job by finishing 3rd. Hicks, Bill Keeler, and Tim Dick won the tuff truck heat races. Kyle and Landon Simon would be the front row to start the sprint car feature at Waynesfield. Landon Simon would shoot into the lead as the green flag waved. Kyle Simon followed for awhile until he made the pass and took the lead. A few yellow flags kept the racers bunched up and played right into Matt Westfall's hands. Westfall started in the 9th position and worked his way through the field. As the final laps were winding down, Westfall caught up to Kyle Simon and the slide jobs began. These two racers traded the front position in every turn during the final 2 laps. Westfall would make the finishing pass in the last turns and come away with the win. Kyle Simon finished 2nd with Corey Smith coming home in 3rd. The sprint car heats were won by Corey Smith, Dustin Trost, and Steve Ott. The 600cc mini-sprints have been putting on great shows at Waynesfield all season long but it was very disappointing to have only 10 cars show up for this race. The mini-sprint drivers were told during the drivers meeting that starting next week, their purse will be cut if there are not at least 14 mini-sprints at the track to race. When the mini-sprint feature race started, Garry Loney ran away from the rest. Loney was well on his way to another feature win at Waynesfield until his muffler fell off his car onto the track and brought out the caution flag. Loney was sent to the tail for bringing out the yellow with just a few laps left. Devon Dobie was the new leader and he would go on to score the feature win ahead of Mikey Hetterbran and Becca Stiefel. Dobie and Brad Racer won the min-sprint heat races. The front wheel drive compacts were the final feature race of the night. David Yoder quickly shot into the lead but all eyes were on Jeff Kimes. Kimes has won every compact feature race this season at Waynesfield Raceway Park. Kimes worked his way towards the front and caught Yoder with just a few laps to go. Yoder battled hard to keep the front position but Kimes would come out the victor. Kimes almost got into trouble during the final laps as Robbie Tuttle had a mechanical problem and quickly slowed on the track while trying to pull off. Kimes almost hit Tuttle at full speed but barely squeaked by. Yoder finished in 2nd place with Justin Durflinger finishing 3rd. The compact heats were won by Kimes and Yoder. Waynesfield Raceway Park will be running on Friday September 4th. Winged 360 sprints, non-wing sprint cars, tuff trucks, and compacts will all be competing. This will be a DARF night at Waynesfield. Racing starts at 7:00pm. For more info check out www.waynesfieldmotorsportspark.com
