5/6/06 Waynesfield, Ohio
The night was chilly but the racing was definately hot on Saturday night at Waynesfield Motorsports Park. Almost 100 cars were on hand to compete in the 6 divisions.
Jared Horstman brought his orange #20 minisprint back to Waynesfield for the 2nd week in a row to again be the class of the field and score his 2nd victory in 2 weeks. The young man seemed to be full of confidence despite putting his 360 sprint car on it's lid the night before. Brent Harmon passed Hank Zimpfer on the last lap to finish 2nd. Zimpfer came home in 3rd.
After a few years out of racing, John Hawk wiped the dust off his black #1h sprint car and showed everyone that he still has it. Hawk won the sprint feature followed by last weeks winner #34 Luke Hall. Joe Laugherty had a nice run to finish in 3rd spot.
The stock car feature saw the #71c chevy of Barney Craig lead the black #42 of Tim Rostorfer across the finished line. Rostorfer tried his best to pass Craig but never could quite pull it off. Last weeks winner, Jerry Butler finished 3rd.
Andy Bibler climbed into a truck for the 1st time to compete in that class. #31 Dan Kelley lead much of the truck race before falling out with mechanical trouble. Bibler won the race while holding off the constant challenges of Derrick Noffsinger. #21z Pete Zuppardo drove his best race in the trucks to finish 3rd.
The white #4 Dodge Neon of Nate Mailhot has become a familiar sight in victory lane at Waynesfield. The red #97 Ford Probe of Terry Eaton Jr. put on one heck of a battle with Mailhot. At one point during the race, the two cars came together and slid partway thru the infield. Both drivers were able to recover without loosing a spot. Just like last week, Mailhot was 1st and Eaton was 2nd. #17 Justin Durflinger finished 3rd.
In the modified class; #08 Mike Roediger started on the front row along side #20k Bill Keeler. Roediger took the early lead with Keeler in hot pursuit. Keeler spent 20 laps waiting for Roediger to give him an opening. At the checkered, Roediger was followed by Keeler and #28 Chad Rosenbeck.
Saturday May 13th will see the Stock Cars, Sprints, Trucks, MiniSprints, and Compacts running at Waynesfield Motorsports Park. The Modified division will have the week off. (story by SkinnyKennysPhotos)
