There will be racing at Millstream Speedway during the 2010 season under a lease agreement between Greg and Mary Beth Roe and Fremont Speedway promoters Rich Farmer and Andy James, it was announced Monday.
The lease is for 2010 and perhaps beyond.
“We are planning to run three to four races this year with more to come in 2011,” said Farmer. “The fans have shown beyond a doubt they want racing at Millstream and we are going to work hard to provide them with the fun and excitement they have come to expect there. We look forward to building great relationships with the people in the Findlay and surrounding communities along with establishing business partnerships that will benefit everyone.”
After sitting idle for nearly eight years, Millstream reopened in 2008 with a pair of races and the fans twice packed the historic track's grandstands. There were also a pair of programs in 2009, featuring the Ohio Sprint Speedweek and a regular show in August.
While no firm schedule has been set for 2010 racing, Farmer noted that the popular Speedweek, featuring the O'Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions, will return on Sunday, June 20 as the third leg of nine straight nights of racing.
Farmer also said the ties between Fremont Speedway and Millstream go back to the 1960s and 1970s and at one time the Findlay track was owned by then Fremont Speedway promoters Paul and Dot Szakovitz. Farmer and James also joined the Roes in a racing show last season.
“We have a great group of employees at Fremont and that will help us tremendously in getting Millstream going,” said Farmer. “We know we have a lot of work to do and we will roll up our sleeves and get going soon.”
Farmer said improvements at Millstream will be made to the track's lighting and sound systems and plans are to reopen the track's main concession stand. Farmer said Millstream's Website, www.millstreamspeedway.com, will be updated soon.
