I have been reading the grumbling posts about how bad the track conditions were at Eldora Friday night. Throwing all the workers under the bus. Come on you race fans. Is this the first time you went to Eldora for the first race of the seaon? If so I can understand why your all so bent out of shape. But for someone that have been going to Eldora for over 30 years I am aware the conditon has always been in question for the first, second, and some times third weekend of racing. I would say the dust condition is an unusual happening but I have seen it before. I know there has been a lot for work going on when the weather condition has allowed. New clay, compost to help hold the moisture. (that obviously did not work) But if you know any thing about soil you will understand that the weather condions must be just right to prepare it proper. If you are a gardener or farmer you know that the soil in Darke county is not even close to being prime for conditioning it. So no matter if your working up a field to be planted or a race track to race on. If the correct soil condition is not present it does not matter how many hours you spend prepping it. It will be a mess. Now is that the fault of the person preparing it? I think not. What I do think is a mistake is the promoters keep opening the track year after year to soon. When Earl was promoting Eldora, he al ways wanted to be the first track open and running for the season. Come **** or high water he was going to race. Usually the track was not ready to be raced on and so it chunked up and apart making huge ruts that tore the cars up and beat up the drivers too. Some bad accidents happend under these condition. So my question is, why can't the opening day be set more toward the end of April and not the beginning? Then extend the racing season on into October. The track is in a lot better condition during that time of the year. I would rather be there watching good racing with a jacket on rather than watching the track fall apart or being so dusty that you can not see the cars in the pit area.

I posted on another site that i cant remember eldora doing a test and tune before( correct me if im wrong) Maybe thats why they wanted one this yr to test some things they have done to the track and get it worked out before the start of the season. You are proably right when you do some things to a track in the off season its gonna take a couple of races to work the bugs out. I have to agree on the early openings and just race later into the season.
