Would anyone other than me like to see Waynesfield's track surface back to the way it was in 2007? When it used to be wet and tacky in hot laps and heats and then slick off to a nice cushion in the feature?! Before everyone posts 900 reasons why its not like that anymore...I would like the racer and fans to give there opinions!

I race all over the mid-west and Waynesfield is by far the slickest race track I have ever raced on...and because of this it is one of the slowest. Im not saying there is anything wrong with a slick and slow race track it actually take a better driver that a wet and fast one does! I just see race tracks like Gas City, Kokomo, The Burg Ect...That have their Grand Stands packed full of people week in and week out because they know those race track produce exciting races..as a driver I find waynesfield challanging, but as a fan i find it extremely boring! and Im not the only one... I had 15 people in the grandstand on opening night that came to watch me race and they were bored out of there minds... just something to think about, Im sure most will not agree but if waynesfield wants to be looked at and loved by new fans its goin to need some changes and i think making the surface like the other race track would be a great start and a driver and fan! I think the reason people are so bored at Waynesfield is because for some reason there is absolutely no atmosphere there. I mean you go to Eldora, Limaland, Attica or Fremont and theres something thats in the air you can feel it and it gets you pumped up and makes you ready to watch some racing. I have been in the pits and grandstands at WRP and theres just something about the place that doesnt really get you pumped up. Im not going to point fingers and heck i really couldnt even figure out a way to get the atmosphere there. But they need to change that they need people to be pumped up and excited to come to waynesfield. Theres one idea that i thought of when i was at WRP for opening night: If WRP had a night where they gave the first 400 fans into the grandstands a checkered flag and then at 5pm have the drivers walk into the infield of the track and then have the fans in the stands be allowed to go into the infield for half hour to 45 minutes and get autographs. This way the kids in the stands can walk across the track and plus the drivers get to see all the fans up close and personal before the races start. Something like this could be advertised for a couple weeks and then it could happen and people would show up for it.

I whole heartedly agree with you.

A slicked off track kinda sucks.

I'm a non-wing sprint car fan to the core, so I much prefer a heavy/wet 'n' tacky track, that the guys can 'stand on it'....

Also, the heavier track equals no dust. Much more than a little bit of dust, is something a 'new fan' isn't going to understand/tolerate.

The races at Waynesfield are always competitive for the most part. But it's slick and the guys really have to peddle it around there, and because of that, there isn't a lot of 'edge of your seat' excitement.

You fans and drivers have a right to yr comments. Me as one who just works there and likes to watch the races when i can. WRP the last 2 weeks has had to deal with some windy conditions. I know the minisprints dont have as much power but those two fellows put on one heck of a show. I think we will have to see what the following weeks and what kind of weather we will have to deal with.

I would like to see the track be a lil heavy..... I understand about the wind and stuff and also running shows back to back but I think the crew up there will get the track in shape for the up coming weeks....

dry slick tracks are so boring. why not just run asphalt. the track should build a cushion and have some bumps to it. not a plowed field but some ruts and/or bumps here and there. make the drivers have to change their line, set up for where they think the track will be fastest. right now its just tighten the car way up and half throttle and lets see who has the best slick track car. boring!

Wow! Maybe you didn't pay attention to Devin Dobie and Nick Daughtey with moisture in the track running @ the top. I haven't seen a mini ever run up there and FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A few years back it didn't matter if there was 100 mph winds that track wasn't going to be dry

I have to agree: A dry slick track is a bit boring  When you start getting drivers chiming in, then something needs to be done and quickly, most of these guys are close friends off the track and word will get around :( I myself would much rather hear a flat foot than a busy one B) It has been done in the past at WMP and I am counting on it to happen again and soon ;) Give em what they want and Tacky it up boys

Got an Idea for some atmosphere and It might even help "Get The Word Out"???
A good way to Impress a Community is to work with them ;) (Make them feel welcome, like a public pool or festival ^_^ , let them know how entertaining The Field can really be, or in race logic-Get Them Hooked  ) Work with people the community respects!

How about this:
Is there anyone out there that would maybe know any Fire dept. or police auxillary or something like that with people from around the area (Waynesfield, Wapakoneta, Uniopolis) that might be interested in setting up a BBQ Chicken dinner or something like that at the track from like 4 till about 6, just before hot laps? If the promoter would let them in to do their fund raisers, maybe it would pay off for him in the long run? I am sure that the promoter could work alittle something out so that the concessions would not suffer too much?

I Think if you get close to your local towns or village officials, they might even help promote the track, and by letting the local fire depts, or other local organizations in to help themselves, it might just help the track too! Plus I think it would create atmosphere among the fans, and that is the key right there ;)

I think what has to happen for Waynesfield to fill them stands is to:

-Heavy up the track for the Racers and the Fans
-Get local officials involved, Will help get the word around!
-Get any organizations that we can think of that need help or need to raise money involved with the track (YMCA, Church Groups, poker runs, radio stations on site, have a family fun nite like Eldora does, Invite local high school bands, How about any local bands that need some exposure, just throwing Ideas out there?)

I think this would be a great word of mouth deal for WMP

Seriously Just tryin to help with my $.02

What about everyone else on here? How about your Ideas? How about we seriously get something going to help Dean out?

Words for thought looking for some Enthusiasm B)

I agree about the dirt slowing the speed of the track down.It has changed, but to me it hurt the attendance when they eliminated the stock car class. Tuff trucks and compact cars aren't going to burn up the track. I realize they have a following also but they're not very exciting to watch. Personally I like watching the guy flagging! He puts his heart into waving that flag!

One of the problems at WRP is that Eldora, The Burg, Limaland, Kokomo, Attica are all established tracks. People would come to Eldora even if I bought it.LOL But seriously give it a little more time. This economy isn't doing any good. Lots of people are struggling to just make ends meet. And some have lost their jobs. So the "racing dollar" has been put on hold.

I think thats what some people dont get , there are so many tracks that with in a 2 hr drive on a sat night that have been established for yrs with a loyal fan base. Then with the kind of weather we have been having track prep is a roll of the dice right now.

I have been going around to some of the other sites and listening to people whinning about tracks pulling the plug on racing. Between the economy, high winds, thunder storms and tornado warnings. If i was running a track i would to pull the plug. Its bad enought with the economy to try and put people in the stands and keeping your head above water.I have to give any track promoter credit for trying to put on a show in these tuff times and condtions. The only thing i can say is put yourself in their shoes, not knowing if you will have enought people to show and not having to dig in your pocket and pay the bills. Im not standing up for any one track but the best i can say if your track is able to run try and support it and enjoy yourself . As a driver i know you look forward to getting out and having some fun on the weekend and it is a big let down when you cant race. I think we all just need to be patient and try to enjoy it when we can support your local track. There are proably some who do pull the plug a little early on some of these shows, but the high price of fuel and some having to travel a great distance only to get there and its been called. There are so many different ways to look at these situations , but the best thing to do is hope for some better weather for racing. Not every track is owned by Tony stewart and can afford a few bad nights.

waynesfield is missing something. yes they have a dry slick track but i think even if it was heavy and fast the fans would be the same. we go to tracks all over ohio, north carolina, indiana, michigan, kentucky and flordia. it doesnt matter if its pavement or dirt. each track has something special about it. has you sit in the stands of waynsefield it just seems to get boring at times and real quite. the racing on the track is good, the show is ran in a quick timely maner and the price for a ticket seems to always be right. but even with those three things its lacking that one or two special things. now i have no clue what those special things are but when you have fans paying more attention to the flag guy dancing around then the atcion on the track theres a problem. here are some ideas i would have for the track : 1. have the announcers get more into the racing, show some excitement, interact with the fans, talk about other racing action going on in the area 2. each track should have that one of a kind food item that fans can only get their, remember americans love to eat! and it cant just be a hot dog or hamburger, its got to be different. 3. if you want to get the word out to the people who have no clue about the track. get a couple local companys to have a corporate night at the track. there is plenty of room at that track. i know limaland has st. ritas and look at how many people are in the stands for that one. maybe try to get memorial hospital, hell even try to talk wal mart into having one out there. theres plenty of unoh kids that have no clue about that track. theres alot of people in the lima area that have no clue theres a race track out there, just ask around you'll see. 4. something i think would be awsome at waynesfield is to have double file restarts during the mains. i can only think of one track that i know of that does this in the area and thats oakshade. you have to give the fans excitement, its what they come to see. you might even get more drivers at the track having this since it would give them a better chance to win. 5. another thing that should prolly be done is to drop the compact class and maybe even the mini sprints. if you ever notice no one pays any attention to them. and the only ones that come to watch them are there family and friends. three classes in one night is plenty. the sprints, trucks, mods, late models. take a vote in the stands and see what the fans want to see. when you only get a handfull of compacts its no fun to watch and even if there were 20 or so i still dont know if there worth it. why do you think not to many tracks run them. 6. something else to think about could be running some wednesday night and sunday shows. i know they have done sunday shows but why not wednesday night. race when no one else is. eldora had a wednesday night show last night. the crowd was decent and it was only 50 deg. out and chances of rain. also look at how many mods they had. these are just some of my thoughts and opinions. i love racing to death, and for some reason waysefield always ends up being my last resort even though i only live a few miles away in elida. i just think they could make some changes, some wouldnt even cost a dime!

I AGREE WAYNESFIELD WHEN IT IS TACKY IS INSANE TO DRIVE ON. FAST HAMMER DOWN THROW IT AROUND. DRY SLICK IT TAKES A DIFFERENT DRIVER AND CAR IT THINK THEY OUGHT TO FLIP A COIN ON THURSDAY, HEADS TACKY,TAILS SLICK THEN IT WOULD KEEP THE RACERS ON THERE TOES

track is usually real good.. some times a little to slick but most of the time i see more than one groove.. if the the track only had 1 groove and was slick i can see complaints but ive seen real good 2 and 3 lane racing almost everytime ive been there

This is a good discussion and Dean, AK1 if you are reading this, take a close look. some are racers, some are fans, some are both. Landon had a good point at the beginning of this topic.
