Tyler Hewitt"s throttle stuck wide open as he was leaving the track at the completion of his hotlap session. The car entered the pit area full tilt. He managed to throw the car sideways and slammed into (the side of) a trailer. The impact moved the trailer several feet; and launched the sprint car into the air and on its side. Two people were struck by something (parts). Thank the Lord no one was directly struck by the race car. Hewitt appeared to be knocked unconscious. He and the two people were all transported to the hospital. I believe the injuries to all were minor. Many lessons to be learned by this incident. Once again, thank God no one was seriously injured.

The 2 who got hit were Roger helmigs ( hope i spelled his last name right.) Wife and kid. Dean told me that Rogers wife ended up with a sore jaw. At first they thought her leg was broke. No realation to Jack or Dallas from Ind.

Was talking to Roger helmig after the races and he said his child is ok and his wife is pretty banged up but the doctors said no broken leg. He also said that Tyler was in the room beside his wife and he talked to him. roger said Tyler has a concussion that he knew of but other than that he would be ok also. We thank god that everyone will recover from this incident and be able to go home to their families. I didn't see it from the press box but from the sounds of it, there were some pretty intense moments.

I didn't see the accident at all from the stands...watched the cars pull off the backstretch, and then was looking at the cars they were rolling out for the next session. Then people around me were saying "HEY, did you see that!!?" and were pointing to the pits. It's truely a miracle that nobody got killed.... Thank GOD for miracles!!

I heard in pits that the helmigs had a paid parking spot but was told to pit where they pitted because a sprint car hauler had already unloaded in thier paid spot.. dont know how true it is but it was a scary situation.. never seen nothing like it... tyler was doing atleast 70 mph wideopen throttle when it slammed in the side of the 17h hauler... everyone did thier job on the treatments that was performed at the track.. i know andy bibler was 1 of the drivers there to help with the injured plus couple other drivers but not sure on thier names.. great job and i wish all the injured best of luck on thier recovery

IM BACK................

Dont know if its true but i heard Rogers wife helped to get the child out of the way. If it was thank god for a mother who watches out for her kids and doesnt let them run around. You just never know what can happen at any time. A person has to be on their toes at all times.

Yes thank god that some moms watch there kids.. I have been around racing all my life I wasnt allowed in the pits till I was 16 because of stuff like this.. But when you have a mom or dad who watches there children lives are saved as we can see.. Hopefully the parents who take there kids in pits or stands take a lesson from this mom!!! I have 5 kids so when we take them there not allowed to get 5 feet away from me because you never know whats going to happen!!! Major props to moms, dads racers, crews, emt, and everyone else who helped!!!

I have photos on 4m.net under the Racing Gossip Category, in the Sprints section just to let everyone know. I witnessed the wreck from a little over fifty feet away and it was pretty nasty when I saw it from on top of the trailer. I saw the guy by the Porta-John that commented on this story, and I am very glad God saved him and everyone!

He is too! I almost didn't have to use it after that (if you know what I mean). I know and have always said KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN IN THE PITS.
