HARTFORD, Ohio (July 29, 2010) – Two rain-delayed features from Wednesday were worth the wait, as Darrell Lanigan (Union, Ky.) won his second straight night of the World of Outlaws Late Model Ohio-Pennsylvania Speedweek and Gary Knollinger got his first Fastrak Late Model Northeast Touring Series win.
Tim McCreadie started the 50-lap, $10,000-to-win Ohio-Pennsylvania Speedweek World of Outlaws A-Main on the pole position and never looked back. He jumped out to big lead on the start, with Matt Miller running in second and barely holding off Lanigan.
WoO used Delaware Double File restarts, setting up a number of passes after Austin Hubbard brought out a caution on the seventh lap. Lanigan, Miller and Josh Richards ran door-to-door for second, third and fourth around the 3/8-mile dirt oval at Sharon Speedway for a number of laps early in the race.
Richards moved into second after a string of early cautions, with Lanigan knocking on the door. By the 18th lap, McCreadie had set sail.
Russ King and Jim Rasey have both called Sharon Speedway home, and they were working running as teammates for most of the race, holding on to their positions to avoid being lapped. That lap traffic gave Richards the help he needed to catch McCreadie, making a move on the 27th lap, but didn't have enough to make it around him.
Come lap 32, there were 16 cars on the lead lap – King running in the last-on-the-lead-lap position, with race leader McCreadie looking to pass. That lap traffic gave Richards an opportunity to catch back up with McCreadie, both battling for first place behind King, with Lanigan was running a close third. On lap 43, Richards fell out of the groove and Lanigan was eager to take the position.
Coming out of turn four, Lanigan was able to hold off McCreadie's comeback efforts to take first. But with just three to go, McCreadie and King got into each other in turn three and Lanigan found himself the recipient of the the first place position. It was opportunities like those that made McCreadie thank his stars in the VP Race Fuels Victory Lane.
“We got a little lucky,” he said humbly after the race, his second feature win in a row. He won the first night of the World of Outlaws Late Model Ohio-Pennsylvania Speedweek at Cenral Pa. Speedway.
Rasey and King both ended the night one lap down: Rasey in 18th and King in 19th.
World of Outlaw heat winners were Josh Richards, Matt Miller, Donnie Moran and Rick ‘Boom’ Briggs.
Also on Wednesday, 36 Fastrak Late Models came out to Sharon Speedway with 24 making it to the A-Main event. The first lap was full of three-wide race action, with Gary Knollinger emerging as the initial race leader before seven cars involved in a turn three incident. The second lap restart saw Jim Frank look to get his nose to the inside and move into second. Kyle Zimmerman found himself running third after the pass, with Josh Holtgraver looking to make a move.
By lap 7, Knollinger had a four car lead over Frank, who also had a sizable advantage over the rest of the field. Holtgraver and Zimmerman were exchanging sheet metal as Butch Lambert remained in striking distance. Mike Pegher Jr. and Brian Force were fighting a hard battle, running door-to-door around the 3/8-mile dirt oval at Sharon Speedway.
Lap 15 saw Knollinger and Frank find lap traffic, giving Frank a chance to decrease Knollinger's lead. Zimmerman was catching up with the race leaders as the battle remained for fourth, fifth and sixth places positions – Holtgraver, Lambert and Pegher were fighting hard for their positions, as Bryan Force kept on the group.
With two to go, Zimmerman had mechanical trouble in turn three and left the track, while Knollinger held on to record his first ever Fastrak Northeast Touring Series win.
Fastrak heat winners were Gary Knollinger, Mark Banal, Butch Lamber and Josh Holtgraver.
