I really hate to blast the decision....but.
Cancelling so early doesn't look good IMO
A couple of weeks ago I had to be at the Ohio State Fair 9:30 Sat. morning. A storm rolled through Columbus about 11:30, lasting to 12:30. After that, the humidity broke, and it was nothing but clear skies, with a nice breeze.
At 5:15 we could finally leave the fair, I took 71N to the bypass, and then jumped on 33, and headed to WRP.
To say I was pissed off when I got to the track, only to find that we were the only people there, is an understatement!!!
I had hurried the family out of the fair, hustled to WRP (driving a little over an hour in the wrong direction to get to WRP) and turned around in the pit drive while looking at bone dry dirt....only to find out they cancelled because of rain that happened well before noon.![]()
I can understand Dean re-arranging the schedule, and the classes he is running on a certian night. But cancelling 5+ hours before hotlaps due to a quick shower is a bit much.
In contrast, Oskaloosa IA had 9" of rain in 2 days, at 11am on race day that had water 5' up onto the track in turns 1&2...they brought in pumps, and at 8pm were starting hotlaps. Granted, that is for a -big race-, but it does show a certian level of commitment.
Same thing i have been saying all year. I only live a couple minutes from WRP and half the time they have cancelled this season they could easily have ran the race. Dean doesnt wanna lose money, which no one does, but he would sooner cancel the night of racing before he would try and get it in. IMO thats not how a race track should be ran, no matter what they should try and get the races in. Im not saying Dean is a horrible person or a horrible track promoter all i have been saying for the last couple years is that he needs to try harder

I suppose it's how you look at it. We all like to race but if the track loses money too many times we might not be racing at all. This weekend looks like the same forecast. If they get it in great if not we'll all live and race another day.Same thing i have been saying all year. Well put compact racer. It's not the end of the world if we cancel....sure we're all a little bummed out but life goes on. At least when we do race we have awesome show's with great action on the track thanks to a bunch of great drivers and fans!.
Ur exactly right "when you do race you have awesome shows" The only thing that bugs me, and im sure im not the only one it bugs, is that there normally is no actual effort to get a show in. Like this past weekend yes it rained early but ur telling me that if the track crew would have went out there as soon as the rain stopped (which was by 1230) ur telling me that with the sun shining and the crew busting their butts you couldnt have gotten that race in? That track would have been great saturday night, but instead of making an effort to race Dean pulled the plug a bit premature like normal. The racing at WRP is incredible everyone that goes knows that, but the problem is WRP always pulls the plug way to early.
