I've had some random thoughts floating around in my head about how to add some flare to WRP. These are strictly my thoughts and not thoughts or ideas affiliated WRP. 1. Sell a season pass. A pass that will be discounted for the entire schedule. If there are a certain percentage of rain-outs then a portion could be refunded. This would have potential to save the weekly supporters some money and give WRP some fan assurance. 2. WRP Weekly coupons to be handed out. many of us have helped dean to hand out flyers in the past but instead of just handing out the flyers have a coupon attached to them. Once the coupon is handed in then this would give you a good indication if this type of marketing is working or not. 3. Check into a small play area for kids. We rally need to have a place that is monitored by an adult for the kids to play at. let's face it all the younger kids lose intrest after awhile and really need a place to play. I'm not sure what this would do to insurance rates but it's something worth looking at. 4. Meet the driver events. I think this is a must. We must have fan driver interaction! 5. Have the winning driver bring his car/truck to a winners area (near where Skinny Kenny sets up) for a 15 minute autograph session. We have done this in the past but I think it needs to be a regular activity. Maybe even make victory lane a place where all fans can access it rather than hold up all the races for photo's and interviews. Now what other track has an exclusive fan friendly victory lane? The only thing we would have to consider is how to keep children away from hot headers on the cars. 6. Win pace truck rides. We have done this in the past and I think it's a great idea. Fans could pace the field for the A-Mains and not have to spend a dime to do it. The winners would be picked from their general admission tickets. 7. Have some sort of costumed character entertaining kids or handing out treats. may sound corny but I think the kids would really enjoy it. 8. For a holiday show (Memorial day or 4th of July) have a two day show that would include other activities. Possibly tug-a-truck, demo derby, quad races or drags. It would be nice to have extra entertainment for after the races for campers such as a country band. 9. Work with local business in surrounding area. Their receipt will get $2 off at WRP and vice versa. 10. Try to organize with a local event in the Lake area that both of us could draw from. For instance a bikers event during the day and toy drive at night. 11. Signage on 33??? Not sure what this would take but we could at least put weekly temporary signs up. 12. Fan suggestion box. 13. Car show during the day and racing in the evening. 14. Camp and race weekend package with local campgrounds at Indian Lake. Work with local campgrounds to give the people something to do in the evenings when camping. 15. One race event that would be interesting would be a compact versus 4cylinder truck challenge. I know some may not think so but I think this would be interesting to see. 16. Work with Lima on some dual track weekend events. I think this would go over well. 17. College student discounts. 18. Group rates if called in advance. Pre-sale group rates. I know some of these ideas are ones that you the racers have brought up before and they are good ideas. Some have talked about building an atmoshpere and all these ideas are atmoshpere building ideas. I'm sure there are many other ideas but I think if we could keep this tread proactive and not negative that we could help put some spirit in the place. Greg has already announced that he is running the same classes as next season so lets all work together to come up with ideas to put some fans in the seats.

One thing I always thought would go over well is moving victory lane in the area between the fence and the grandstands. Obviously some modifications would have to be made as far as the pit gate, and a fence would have to be added, but that would put the feature winner right in front of the crowd, and he or she could pull straight out and around the top of turns 1 and 2 and off to the pits while the next class is preparing to start their feature.

Quite a few of those ideas seem really familiar. ;)

But they are darn good ideas, none the less!! :D

Mr. Shobe, these types of things HAVE TO HAPPEN, for WRP to grow. NOW is time to be hustling, and getting these things lined up for the 2011 season!!

Im sorry but im old school, you shouldnt have to do things to get peoples butts in the seats. A good fast moving program with the right class of cars will do it. I remember sitting at eldora one night and 2 guys beside me were talking about the kart racing and their only complaint was the late night shows at wrp they ran to late. Dean did the right thing in a fast moving show and getting home early. Im sorry but if i brought my kids to the race track they would sit in the stands and watch, not running around bothering other people trying to watch a race and climbing on the stands. If they are not interseted leave them with a baby sitter. let the parent watch their own kids at the track., Meet the drivers is not a bad idea thats why i worked the gate so drivers and crews could go up into the stands and mingle with fans. I remember the night Critter malone was there he went by himself up into the stands and was giving away autographed pics of himself. Look at the number of billboards at lima, more of those with the money being puy into the point fund. They need what fremont and attica does with the fast series . Look at fremont or eldora almost every heat race is backed by some sort of business backing it and listed in the results. You mean unoh wouldnt back a heat race at wrp. Things need to be worked out with lima, two tracks that close to each other some thing needs to be worked out between the two. If you can find the backing if you can win a feature at lima and double up at wrp you get a bonus. But Wrp only runs one class that lima does. Mods. Then with lima and the nascar deal they are looking to maybe draw more mods at their shows that would be a good night that when eldora isnt running to do the double up thing. Dean did one of the biggest things he could of done to get fans he gave out a lot a free tickets to P&G and only 10 people came and they gave out some great prises. The main thing is the schedule dont work against eldora, they have cut way back on their regular night shows. try and draw some of those cars and fans in. Lima usually has a good 50/50 drawing to the winner give out maybe 5 or so free pass,s to WRP. The winner of the 50/50 drawing at wrp give a couple of free pit passes for the following week with a hot dog and a pop. There are 2 pizza places in waynesfield give out a differnt free pizza from each one it would add some thing to the 50/50 drawing and maybe give out free advertising for the pizza places. There i go i say im old school and you dont need of any of these things to add to the program and im doing it. WRP has grown i remember seeing only under a hundred people in the stands if that when it started out.

Skip, I agree with WRP not being a babysitting service. The kids play area just adds more liability. And you are right, any/all kids are the responsibility of the parents. Years ago, something like racing was interesting to a lot of people, now there is a huge level of competition for peoples entertainment dollar. Getting the fans in position to be up-close with the cars (car shows on Sat morning, a couple of cars sitting out by the ticket window, the winners of the features sitting at a table beside their cars in the 'chute' after the races to meet the fans) and Co-Marketing (working with the other tracks, Indian Lake campgrounds, bars/eateries, pizza places, civic groups...Lions club, Fire/Police departments, Auglaize County tourism council, working with some race teams to bring their cars to some Auglaize Co. festivals/tractor shows and the County fair, etc) is what needs to happen for WRP to grow.

Skip- ?????????????? Do you really believe the things you type? The Fact is unless more people like OGRE come up with some ideas and put them into action WMP probly wont even be around in 3 years....beacuse the fact is not that many people care about the sport we all love...... There are much more apealing options for familys on saturday night the sitting around a dirt circle in a poorly lit field getting the eyes blasted with dirt...... This is how 99% of the population looks at what we do... If race tracks in general dont make the events more fan friendly this sport is going to die and as far as i can see WMP may be one of the weakest links out there..... OGRE just came up with 18 ideas that in my opinion would turn WMP around and make every member of a family have fun.... to be 100% honest im ashamed to bring new fans to WMP.. it has nothing to offer someone that isnt a die hard racing fan....(im sure i will catch hell for this but its true) and these 18 ideas would help that alot.......Thanks for the post OGRE.... if i was the 2011 promotor these would all be used!

Great ideas there Ogre! I want to add one. I would like to see benches or more picnic tables or somewhere you could sit if you wanted to get out of the stands for a moment (away from the dust to catch your breath) or to just sit and take a break. Meet and greet the drivers is an excellent idea and would not cost anyone a dime to do! A printed program with some of the drivers pics and a little interview to get the fans to know them would be a great thought too. Or have your pic taken with the driver. Kids would love it!

In a lot of ways I agree with both "schools". Kids do loose their attention pretty easy anywhere. And you should look after your kids reguardless of where you are. If they are 9 or 10 they could probably play alone, but you throw in a couple 3 and 4 year olds it kinda changes. They could get hurt. Tables at the comcession would be nice, a clean place to take a break, and eat in peace. How about having a bicycle race for the kids 12 and under. $25 dollars to win and a little trophy. They used to have one at Eldora years ago and they had a whole bunch of kids show up. No entry fee of course. Just fun. And no Landon you can't race in it. LOL Season passes are good. Even the car-load idea works. There are a lot of great ideas here. But Greg and Tammy are gonna have to sort out "what they can do" and "what they can't". And we'll just have to go with it for now and try and work with them.JMO.

I think every one of us have one thing in mind to see WRP make it and what ever it takes . I think every one can agree on that. We can dicker back and fourth on what each one of us want to see but what ever works we will live with it.
