UNOH buys Eastown Road property January 19, 2012 7:03 PM BETH L. JOKINEN -
419-993-2093 : UNOH newest project Purchase and renovating 1530 N. Eastown Road building Moving motorsports racing team to building $1.5 million project Completed within a year LIMA — Just as University of Northwestern Ohio athletic teams have their own homes on campus, so will the school's racing team within a year. The school is purchasing the former YMCA west side location at 1530 N. Eastown Road. The 36,000-square-foot building, located just south of the new Ohio State Beauty Academy, has been vacant for a couple of years. “I thank the YMCA board and management team for working with us on this,” school President Jeff Jarvis said Thursday. “It really enhances our educational options by allowing me to move our high-performance motorsports team into it.” Renovation work will begin in the next two months and be completed in six to nine months. The project will cost $1.5 million, including the purchase of the building and renovations. The Motorsports Racing Complex will triple the space the team currently has. The team of 35 builds cars and races them at different venues across the country. The team, which 188 tried out for this year, has been around for six years. The new building will house classroom space for the team and a shop where cars will be stored, built and repaired. The front of the building will be glass to show off the students' work. “So when you are driving down Eastown you can see the race cars the students built,” Jarvis said. The property has enough space for the school to park its large fleet of vehicles, including semitrailers and educational trailers used by the team to travel to racing venues. The team was housed in the high performance motorsports program's 600 Building on Hartzler Road. It will allow the school to recruit more students into the program. “Because of our growth we need that space for additional classrooms,” Jarvis said. The project joins four ongoing ones on campus. The five total more than $25 million. A students commons building, including library, food court and medical and information technology program, will be completed in May. Additional housing is also under construction. Have to admit its one of the few places in Lima that continues to grow.

Very true Skip!

And the demo/remodel of the building will help the Lima economy quite a bit!
