As for schedule for the dedication of the Heidelberg Raceway Historical marker on July 15: The ceremony will start at 2PM. It will basically include remarks from dignitaries, the racing community (me), possibly a gentlemen from the NASCAR members club, and the Boro of Heidelberg is working on a lady from Ringing Bros. as well as a citizen who is going to talk about the circus. During the ceremony the historical marker will be unveiled as well. Following the ceremony, they will have free light refreshments for those in attendance. (Hope they don't run out)
Three racecars will be on display in the Walgreens parking lot next to the dedication site. Lynn Geisler will bring the 37 Ford that Bill Webster drove that had a Lincoln motor and was a twin to the pink car Herb Scott drove. Lynn started his racing career at Heidelberg.
Bob Bentz Jr. and his Dad Bob Sr. will bring a 2010 Chevy Impala Super Sport Late Model that competes in the NASCAR weekly racing at Motordrome and with those two cars will encompass the two eras of Heidelberg Raceway dirt and asphalt.
Bob Sr. was a Crew Chief and Crew member for Joe Viglione in the early years of racing.
Jim Witzberger, who is the nephew of the late Ed Witzberger, will have his 410 Sprint Car on display as well. Jim is involved in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and proudly displays the logo for JDRF on his car.
Parking for attendees is encouraged within the raceway plaza (Scott Town Center) shopping center and walk you can to the site. If you are not familiar with the location of the shopping plaza, it is on Route 50 in Heidelberg. Get off at the Kirwan Heights exit of I-79 and turn Left and go about 3 to 4 miles to the shopping plaza on the Left. Lowes is in the same shopping plaza as well as Woltz and Wind Ford and Kings Family Restaurant.

While I truly love dirt track racing, Heidelberg was in a class by itself. Great facilities, great fields of cars, lots of passing, lots of out of town drivers, always an exciting evening. My favorite track of all time, wish it were still open. During warm-up laps, I used to stand down at the end of the front straightaway watching the cars come screaming out of the fourth turn full-bore down the straight, then fly into the turns. Totally awesome, and while I'm not overly nostalgic, what I wouldn't give for one more night at Heidelberg.

All the great racers are up there going at it, and believe me, the track is Heidelberg, and yes, Ed Witzberger is still running a tight ship, and packing them in. Watch out for that lady behind the flagstand......... she has her favorite driver and do not cross her!
