PACE PERFORMANCE “FUTURES CUP” CONTENDERS PERFORMING WELL; FINAL 2 TRIFECTA RACES ANNOUNCED By Mike Leone July 28, 2012 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Pulaski, PA)…There’s no denying the impact and buzz the inaugural “Futures Cup” program created in 2011 with Ryan Montgomery winning the championship on the final night. The Class of 2012 contenders have been battling it out on the track throughout the spring and summer months with their eye on the title- this year presented by Pace Performance. FASTRAK Northeast has announced that stand-alone “Trifecta” races two and three will be held at Sharon Speedway on September 8 and Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex over the “Fall Fest” weekend on September 28-29. Earlier this month, Nico Dabecco passed Lauren Longbrake on the final lap for the “Trifecta” race one win at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. These events add points on to drivers’ best 15 point scores from April through September. This year’s championship will again pay $1,000 to-win with each “Trifecta” race offering $200 to-win. Last year, Newt Tackett, Longbrake, and Montgomery were the “Trifecta” winners, and with Dabecco scoring round one, there have been four different winners in four races. A total of 11 different racers from six different states are part of this year’s “Futures Cup” class. “The depth of the exceptional young talent that is part if the FASTRAK Northeast just continues to amaze me,” stated sixth year Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. “When you watch these kids compete week after week with some of the best FASTRAK racers in the country you find yourself forgetting how young they really are. There’s no doubt that many of them will develop into some of the best our region has to offer in upcoming years. We are so proud of them and thankful to Pace Performance for stepping up this year to support this program.” “Futures Cup” racers have performed very well this year with Dabecco (Pittsburgh), Jorden Peters (Humberstone), and Jordan Keruskie (Can-Am) all scoring feature wins. In fact, the victories were the career first in FASTRAK for all three racers. Cody Dawson is the current “Futures Cup” leader. The Westover, Maryland driver has recorded seven runner-up finishes at New Egypt, but hasn’t been able to break into victory lane yet. Dawson did make one trip west to compete in the Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Pace Performance Northeast Touring Series event at Dog Hollow Speedway on June 8. Dawson’s lead has shrunk to just 17 over Dabecco, who was second last Saturday at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex for his best ever finish at the Markleysburg, Pa. oval. The 15-year-old Dabecco is in his third year of FASTRAK competition and is easily having his career best season. Dabecco ranks third in Pittsburgh’s points. Coming off a pair of top 10s in stiff competition on Saturday at Sharon against 42 cars in the Northeast Touring event where he finished eighth and a tenth on Sunday in the $1,000 to-win race at Dog Hollow, Shane Weaver is only 11 points behind Dabecco. The Marion Center, Pa. teen has vastly improved from last season and looks like he’ll contend for the “Futures Cup” championship. Weaver is a regular on the Northeast Touring Series where he currently sits in 10th place! Lauren Longbrake turned in one of her best weekends of her young career. The 14-year-old finished a career best second to Max Blair in Weekly Series action last Friday night at Raceway 7 then came from 24th to finish 10th to receive the Precise Racing Products “Pedal Down” Hard Charger at Sharon Speedway in the Northeast Touring Series event. The 14-year-old Columbus, Ohio teen appears primed to make a run at the “Futures Cup” title after failing to finish in the top 10 positions in 2011. Eric Wilson shocked the FASTRAK world winning a feature and holding off the best of the best last year at Sharon in his rookie season at 14. The 15-year-old Cortland, Ohio racer has called Sharon home again in 2012, but has also hit the road more this season competing in over half of the Northeast Touring Series event. Peters is in his second year of FASTRAK and the teenager is one of the “Futures Cup” feature winners at Humberstone. Clay Ruffo is another driver in his second year of FASTRAK and like Wilson calls Sharon home and went on the road Touring some in 2012. Ruffo recorded his career best FASTRAK finish on June 30 with a fifth at Sharon. At 16, Ruffo has experience in the Stock Car and Econo Mod divisions and does a victory last season at Sharon in the Econo Mods. Other eligible FASTRAK “Futures Cup” racers include Keruskie, Breyton Santee, Bodie Bellinger, and Brett Benedum. The 14-year-old Santee has made the transition from Mod Lites to full-size cars earlier this year and has held his own. Santee races weekly at Raceway 7, but has finished 10th at both Sharon and Eriez Speedways. The top Pace Performance “Futures Cup” racers will be honored at the 2012 FASTRAK Northeast Awards Banquet.
