And The Article:

Marion Center Speedway- July 29, 2012

Marion Center Speedway was once again forced to adjust its schedule due to weather conditions, this time though the speedway got the “better of the weather.” Moving the regular Saturday night program to Sunday and moving it ahead one hour seemed to work for the track to get the program in. The first order of business was to complete races from July 14 and then do an entire night’s program regularly scheduled for July 28. Here are the results of the night:

The Willow Farm Campground Steel Block Limited Latemodel feature from July 14 was won by Cheyenne Reed of Punxsutawney. Reed started deep in the field of twenty-one cars in seventeenth position (actually 24 cars were scheduled but 3 scratched). Several cautions throughout the race kept the pack close together and on each restart, Reed seemed to get a good jump on the others around him and moved ahead little by little, and lap by lap. By the seventh lap, Cheyenne Reed had taken over the lead. Sam Gindlesperger from Johnstown had started in second place and held that position throughout the feature to take home second place and Charlie Powell, Jr. of Brookville came up from last place to finish third. Kyle McFarland from Rochester mills was fourth and Bernie Whiteford of Hastings was fifth. Then it was Joe Petyak followed by Eric Baun, Jeff Taylor, Jeff Weakland, and Chad Shearer for the top ten. The Willow Farm Campground Steel Block Limited Latemodel heat races were ran on July 14 and were won by Tom Jobe and Sam Gindlesperger.

The Other feature to be made up Sunday was the Front Wheel Drive 4 Cylinder Riceburners. In their race, Chris Hickok from Commodore commandeered the race, leading all but one lap that Jon Lee from Mahaffey got in front of Hickok. After taking the lead, Lee lost control and brought out the caution giving the lead back to Hickok. While that was going on, Craig Decker from Cherry Tree was working his way up to the front and challenged Hickok for the lead but never got it and settled for second place. Lee came back to finish third and Robert Lydic of Rochester Mills was fourth. The “nine year-old Phenom,” Chase Carnahan from Indiana took fifth place and Matt Eiselman of Ernest was sixth leaving last place to Denny Phillips who dropped out early. The Front Wheel Drive 4 Cylinder Riceburner heat race went to Jon Lee back on the 14 TH.

Then it was time for the regularly scheduled program to take the track and it was exciting with an influx of cars that don’t normally race at Marion Center Speedway on a regular basis. In the Lias Tire Super Latemodel feature, Dan Swartzlander of Sarver came to the track for the first time this season and dominated the sixteen-car field. Starting on the outside pole, Swartzlander took the lead at the first green and rode it out to the checkered flag twenty-five laps later. Doug Glessner was the pilot of Billy Eash’s car (Eash's number, Glessner's car) from Johnstown Sunday and put it in second place. Andrew Gordon from DuBois started and ended in third place and Bryan Force of Indiana moved up through to take fourth. Fifth place went to Rod Phillips from Punxsutawney and Ken Schaltenbrand was sixth. Rounding out the top ten were Denton Boyer, Shane McMeans, Dave Blazavich and Jim Detman. The Lias Tire Super Latemodel heat races were won by Denton Boyer and Dan Swartzlander.

Kyle McFarland conquered the Willow Farm Campground Steel Block Limited Latemodel feature. McFarland of Rochester Mills camped out in the front of the pack and won his first feature this season by leading every lap. McFarland was challenged throughout the race especially by Joe Martin from Ringgold. Martin was here for the first time and started on the outside pole position beside McFarland. Martin put up quite a fight, but McFarland knew how to handle the track, and took the win leaving Martin in second place. Bernie Whiteford from Hastings moved up through the pack from halfway back to third place, and Josh Valenti of Clymer came along for fourth place. Fifth place went to Jeff Weakland from Hastings also coming up from the middle of the pack. Rounding out the top ten in order were Cheyenne Reed, Joe Petyak, Levi Sikora, Tom Jobe and Chad Shearer. The Willow farm Campground Steel Block Limited Latemodel heat races were won by Sam Gindlesperger, Scott Stein and Charlie Powell, Jr.

The ¾ Scale Latemodels came out seven strong for their feature and posted a new winner for their efforts. Rick Ament from Vandergrift got he win Sunday by taking over the lead from a mishap by Jason Fosnaught. Fosnaught started on the pole and led the first two laps before he spun leaving Ament in the lead. Ament took advantage of the gift and led the rest of the race to the checkered flag. Chris Frank from Leechburg took second place and Dane Laraway of Harrison City was third this week. Fourth place went to Calvin Cohan of Gibsonia and Patrick Waugh of New Florence was fifth. Rounding out the field were Jason Fosnaught and Jimmy Lockard. Dane Laraway won the ¾ Scale Latemodel heat race.

Jeff Sweeney of Marion Center dominated the W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stock feature to take home his fifth win of the season, more than any one else in the division. Sweeney took the lead from pole position start to checkered flag and held off all contenders along the way. Those contenders included Chris Schneider of Springdale who challenged Sweeney earlier on in the race until he was overtaken by Nate Smith of Glen Campbell. Smith moved up from seventh place to try and make a move on the leaders and successfully overtook Schneider for second place but couldn’t take Sweeney’s first place away. Schneider finished third and John Poling from Punxsutawney was fourth with Corey Neal from Trade City in fifth. The rest of the top ten in order were Dennis Bothell, Rod Phillips (the same as Latemodel Rod Phillips) and Don Waltman, Eric Lingenfelter and Randy Sterling. The W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stock heat races were won by Nate Smith and Eric Lingenfelter.

Jim Hamilton of Coalport went flag to flag in the front of the Today’s Hot Country, Q-102 Strictly Stock feature to get his second win of the season. Hamilton led the way like a champ and let the others fall in behind him as they could. Coming closest to Hamilton at the checkers was David Beahr from Windber who started beside Hamilton and finished second. Marshall Detwiler of Roaring Spring came in third for his first attempt at the track and Nick Fulmer of Marion Center was fourth. Jim Hamilton’s daughter, Kylie Hamilton’s car was driven by Rich Powell Sunday for a fifth place finish. The top ten rounded out in order with Kenny Haight, Luke Barnett, Fred Casagni, Ryan Caldwell and Justin Queen. Marshall Detwiler and Matt Krause won the Today’s Hot Country, Q-102 Strictly Stock heat races.

Tim Bish from Ringgold won the Front Wheel Drive 4 Cylinder Riceburners’ feature by leading all but the first lap. Robert Lydic from Rochester Mills led the first lap from starting on the outside pole and then relinqui8shed the lead to Bish who took it to the end. Lydic followed suit to finish second and Jeremy Lute of Clymer was third. Fourth place went to Chase Carnahan – yes he’s only 9- of Indiana and Matt Eiselman of Ernest was fifth. The rest of the field finished in the order of Craig Decker, Chris Hickok, David Seibert III from Gibsonia and Jon Lee. Adam Laughard and Denny Phillips didn’t start the feature. The Front Wheel Drive 4 Cylinder heat was won by Craig Decker.

Looking ahead, the first running of the 2012 Spectator Drags is scheduled for Aug. 4 with Kid’s Bike Races at intermission And The Pikel’s B P INN Fireworks Show is also scheduled for Aug. 4 as well. So if you want to participate in the Spectator Drags, you need to sign up and bring your street legal car and a helmet to the track for Aug. 4 after the regular program when the track will be at its best for street cars. Also: Please Note the Independence Day Celebration Special from July 3 will be completed on August 11 with racing in the Willow Farm Campground Steel Block Limited Latemodels with a 35 lap $1500 to win feature, plus the Mod Lites 25 lap race paying $500 to win in addition to the regular program scheduled that night. Check out www.marioncenterspeedway.net for more info. Schedule subject to change at any time at owners’ discretion.

something must be wrong with the right rear suspension on the lee car everytime he went in to the turn the left rear wheel came up off the ground and his car would slide up the track. might need to check some suspension parts .

I'm glad the kid that hit the UKE tire in the 4-banger was okay, but I have to admit, it was funny as hell, especially when the water in the tire flew all over the car. He had to be soaked.
