Numbers must not be made of reflective material.
It sure makes photographing them easier.

They should define which reflective materials are banned, and be more specific about what they don't want to be reflected (light, I assume). Rule mongers.I was just looking over the ISMA supermodified rule book and came across one I really like.

ISMA will be at Sandusky, friday the 24th.
If you go to that, prepare to stay overnight. I went to the Hy-Miler Nationals and I didn't get home until about 4:00 A.M.

I was also at the Hy-Miler. It has become an annual thing with me. Friday ran very late, but then there was that 1 1/2 or more rain delay. Saturday wasn't as bad but really could have started earlier and avoided the long delay mid-show. All in all, I really enjoyed the races.
Back to the rulebook, I found it interesting that they said a car can be built for about $50k. Slightly more than a 410 sprint car engine. The use of cast iron big blocks helps. Yea they are radical, but not as radical as you might think. The engines are fairly restricted, there is a lot of power left in them.

It's getting to the point of how much quicker can they really go? I think it has been said that they can beat an IndyCar on a mile track and they will do 190MPH. That's absolutely INSANE for a short track car. I guess that's part of the fun though. They're an outlaw car and it's neat to see some of the ideas. One guy there had a supermodified with the engine on the right side and he had a 'body' on it to make it more aero.

That was Gene Lee Gibson, he gets lots of interesting ideas. I was talking to one of his crew members about the design and the theory of offsetting the engine to the right. His reply, "It's just something that got stuck in Gene Lee's head." To me the fact that the rules don't stifle innovation is what keeps pulling me back to them.
I will try to remember to post a picture of Gene Lee's car later today when I get home.

I wish I would have snapped a picture of that car. I don't see why that design wouldn't work with all of the weight on the right side. Supermodifieds just amaze me when I see them.
