Apollo PA's Ed Lynch Jr. won his first feature anywhere this season in the Black Jack 21 Super Sprint Car special picking up his 16th career PPMS win. Lynch Jr. took the lead from Brandon Spithaler on lap 5 and led the remaining laps unchallenged. Jack Sodeman Jr. was second followed by Spithaler, Daryl Stimeling, Rod George, Eric Williams, Adam Kekich, Pete Miller III, Brent Matus and Russ Sansosti. The heats were won by Rod George, Jack Sodeman, and Pete Miller III.
In the Brougher's Machine Shop Fastrak Crate Late Models, Rochester Mills PA's Andrew Satterlee won his third feature of the season. Satterlee grabbed the lead at the start, weathered a red flag and several restarts and dominated the 20 lap event in picking up his third win in 5 starts. Mike Reft was running a strong second, until the last lap when he tagged the wall and ended up 13th. Kyle Lukon was second followed by Colton Flinner, Beau Glemba, Scott Schempp, Justin Lamb, Dennis Niederriter (also the K&N Performer of the race), Jeff Broniszewski, Chuck Medved, and Laura Lukon. Dusty Curry, Mike Reft and Colton Flinner grabbed the heats.
Pat Weldon, Monongahela PA, won his 5th Sunoco Race Fuels DIRTcar Sportsman Cadets feature in exciting fashion. Craig Koteles grabbed the lead at the start, and led the first 4 laps before he spun bringing out the races only caution. Jake Simmons took over at this point and led lap 5. Weldon led lap 6, with Simmons back in front on lap 7. For the next 6 laps the pair put on a wild battle for the top spot, with Weldon taking the lead for good coming to take the white flag. The finish was Weldon, Simmons, Brian Huchko, A.J. Poljak, Nick Kocuba, Wayne Carbo, Mitch Wattelet, Craig Koteles, and Carl Weidenhofer (in the Jenn Barker #33). Wattelet was dubbed the K&N Performer of the race. Jake Simmons won the heat.
Joe Podolinsky Oakdale PA won his 6th Miley BP Car Wash DIRTcar Hobby Stocks feature of the season. Podolinsky took the lead at the start and led the entire distance holding off Gary Smith, who has been red hot of late. At the checker, it was Podolinsky, Smith, Christian Schneider, Chase Evans, Hannah Ramsey, Steve Pyeritz, Don Black and Alec Broniszewski (in the Goldberg #714). Don Black picked up the K&N Performer of the race. Joe Podolinsky also won the heat.
Imperial Heights Garage DIRTcar Young Guns had Carnegie PA's Logan Crewl win his 4th feature of the season. Crewl defeated Dylan Bolind, David Ostrander, Todd Weldon (who was docked two spots for jumping on a restart), Roman O'Neil, Terrance Ryan and Courtney Chamberlain. The K&N Performer of the race was Courtney Chamberlain.

Great Show last night Matt , your nephew is a hell of a driver, hope he makes the treck to Eldora for the World 100 he sure has the equipment and talent to give it a shot! I would like to take time to thank you and the PPMS family for letting me park behind the grandstands while I deal with this terrible knee problem I have , again it was a great night of racing!

Glad you all enjoyed the RMR. The track has been in great condition all year thanks to Brian and his father. And the competition has been great as well. We hope you will stop by again as we appreciate your support. Remeber the Ed Laboon Sportsman 17 Showdown is this Saturday and the 23rd Annual Jook George Memorial Classic is just two weeks away!!
The soaking down of the bottom of the track prior to the crate late race wasn't a great idea. It caused multiple wrecks and quite a few torn up racecars. If you want to keep the sprints out off the bottom to keep the dust down, try cones or uke tires. Leaving standing water not such a great idea.........

There was only one car that kept driving down there, and that was the black 8 car. He almost wrecked on the start of the race, and probably flung mud all over the track to cause that first lap wreck. Then he ended up hitting the wall a few laps later because of it, so I guess he didn't learn the first few times he drove down there. I wouldn't blame the track crew. If the drivers see water down there, they shouldn't drive down there. It's not like the drivers didn't know it was wet, they had them all running the bottom in before the race started.

Made it out to the first race this year and thought the racing was great in all divisions but especially in the late models....the drivers put on a great feature and the track held up well.....from what I hear the track has been good most of the year from what I understand. As with most things with the good also comes opportunities for improvement. A few things come to mind....I sit down in turn one about 3/4 of the way down the straight away. I am not sure but I dont think there are speakers that work down there because even during the intermission and during victory lane interviews and during cautions no one down there could here any announcments...including the 4 guests I brought to the track, bummer becasue that can really add value to a night at the races....Second is the bleecher conditions down in that section are SCARY......I mean I thought there was a few times we were going through.....all I can say is close those sections down or fix em because they come off as making your maintenance team and facility as being poorly maintained. I will say that there looked to be some effort done there because I saw a few boards that were repaired but there was some cheap engineering going to there because the good board was place right on top of the bad board.....unless these HIGHRISE seats were for shorter people...LOL....If your going to fix it your team should fix it right....The last opportunity for improvement was related to why no one on your track team added any dirt to the oil stripe (when derek stefanic blew his motor) on the track before they asked the drivers to run through that spot to try to clean it up. The drivers ran at least 10 caution laps, even a few drivers (Scotty Gunn) weren't convinced this was the right idea. Really no dirt at a dirt track......Hmmm...
Please dont take these as negative, the feedback is only meant as an opportunity for you to improve your product...
See you at the Pittsburgher - Hopefully we will hear ya...

So, you're saying that leaving water on the racetrack where cars are going over 100 mph is safe racing as long as people drive around it. I'll answer you, it's not.

If it was all the way down on the bottom of the track, out of the racing groove, then yes. And as I understand it, they told all the drivers to stay out of there.

Thank You for attending. There is always room for improvement. We will keep plugging away to make PPMS the best it can be.
Please notify security of any "SCARY" bleachers, one said boo to me last week, and they will caution tape the boards for replacement.
I'll check on the speakers again, the little ones do nothing, they are replaced by the real big square ones, supposedly state of the art! Every time I have them checked the darn things work. Also 92.5 on the radio will pick up Dow and with headphones you can hear while they are racing.
We have speedy dry in the back of the red push truck...my understanding is a bit of oil on the tires will help them fire on a restart??...maybe that's not true...who knows for sure?...it always seems better from a debris standpoint to just run the oil in if it's not to bad.
We are glad you enjoyed the racing and the track has been fantastic all season, great job of offseason preparation and in season maintainence. The surface and the drivers racing on it are providing the best racing I have ever seen at PPMS, any perhaps anywhere in 2012!
The battle between Greg and Keith for 1,2 and Jared and Steve for 3,4 at the same time left you not knowing what to watch...meanwhile Berner was looking like he was going to drive right to the front!
Thanks again for joining us at the 2012 RMR! Ed Laboon 17 this Sat, then the JOOK George, then the first ever Monster Truck Show as the racers get a week off at PPMS to prep for the 24th annual Tri Star Pittsburgher Sept 14 & 15!...and we keep going weekly this season to the Monster Mania grand finale Oct 6!
Support your local speedway! Join them for some great short track racing!

On a track by your self avoiding the water would be easy... except some people drive a race car like they play mario cart employing a windsheild wiper like maneuver where they violently swerve from wall to wall and on some extreme occasions avoiding said road hazards involves driving through the water. I have a broken thumb right now as a result of the combination of that water and the road hazards. With a track that wide I cant understand making part of it unuseable. To explain how this happened on the start I allowed one of the mario carts 50ft between me and the wall but they decided they needed 70 so they violently swerved left toward the inside which caused me to either check up or be part of a 10 car first turn pile up and checking up resulted in the car behind me driving under my rear end and then another car tryed to make it 4 wide going into 1 only he was in the water not on a race track so his car shot up into mine spinning the wheel around and breaking my thumb turn 1 lap 1 of a 53 lap race !! telling people to simply avoid that water ignores the fact some cars are lucky enough to stay between both walls let alone avoiding certin areas. Im not insulting the track or the preparation I am simply making an observation based on personal experiance that the first 15 ft of the track not being flooded makes for a safer experiance for the competitorsIf it was all the way down on the bottom of the track, out of the racing groove, then yes. And as I understand it, they told all the drivers to stay out of there.

couldn't agree more. that water has caused more problems than it has ever helped. the water was not out of the racing groove. if the water were not there a lot of drivers would have been using that part of the track. like it was mentioned before move the tires out or something to keep drivers away from there but do not water the track. i almost had the same situation happen to me a couple laps before dusty hit the wall. i was racing with justin lamb and was trying to make sure we both had plenty of room. well i went low and did not just drive through the water but barely clipped a little bit and the car just took off. drivers hitting the water also affects the drivers behind them as the water is now spread the whole way across the track. thats just my opinion though. doesn't seem the safest to me

I agree small but important suggestions for improvements.......especially if the effort seems to be minor (replacing boards doesnt seem to take a rocket scientist) but the payoff in PR and customer satisfaction is huge......Imagine the number of people on here that would give HUGE amounts of positive PR for the replacement of a few $20 boards.......Come on take the next step...we "like" a good facility but would "love" a great facility......The tradition and Miley name as it is associated with racing would only build to greater heights....I also sat down at the end of the main grandstand in turn 1 and noticed some scary looking boards too. I tried not to step on any of them because they looked like they might break at any moment.
That is the only complaint I have, the track was racy and it only took a short time to get the cars lined back up after a cation. It wouldn't hurt to put up 1 more big speaker at the end of the main grand stand in 1. Hope you take these suggestions as positive way to help improve a good facility.
