NEARLY $30,000 IN PRODUCTS & CONTINGENCIES AWARDED TO 47 RACERS AS PART OF INAUGURAL FASTRAK NE “MANUFACTURERES NIGHT” AT SHARON ON AUGUST 18; MAX BLAIR WINS BILL EMIG MEMORIAL “WILD CARD WEEKEND”
By Mike Leone
August 22, 2012 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Pulaski, PA)…The inaugural “Manufacturers Night” held on August 18, 2012 at Sharon Speedway was a rousing success. The event was another unique promotion part of the record 25-event 2012 Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC Pace Performance FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series schedule. A total of 47 drivers competed setting an all-time record car count for Sharon, which is in its second season under the FASTRAK weekly banner, but fourth season hosting Northeast Touring events. Those drivers shared in approximately $30,000 of product and contingencies distributed in addition to prize money. (Note: A complete list of the prizes and winners is posted below.)
“I never would have imagined last winter that Manufacturers Night would blossom into this unbelievable that took place,” expressed sixth year Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. “When we initially announced the night, our goal was $15,000 and we were able to double that! Words cannot express the sincere appreciation we feel for all of our own great sponsors along with many new companies that have joined the effort to make this event a huge success! It was awesome to see the excellent turnout of cars for this event as well. Hopefully we can make the 2012 event even bigger and better!”
Drivers drew for the prizes in a reverse order of the pill draw, meaning the driver that drew the worst pill for his heat race assignment drew first. The three remaining prizes that were left were awarded to the corresponding finish at the end of the night. The prizes were valued anywhere from $150 up to $2,600!
Each driver also received two cases of Quaker State Racing Oil and a t-shirt from Wylie Race Cars. Every competing driver earned over $250 in prizes in addition to their race earnings! Keizer Aluminum Wheels awarded each of the top 20 feature finishers a $50 certificate toward the purchase of a wheel. So those 20 drivers left with a minimum of $300 in prizes!
Josh Holtgraver won the grand prize by drawing the number one pill, which was a complete set of four Tornado F4 Brake Calipers valued at $2,600! Holtgraver went on to finish fifth in the feature, which matched his best of the season, and also collected one of the $50 Keizer certificates.
The second grand prize of a complete set of Genesis G1 Series Aluminum Shocks with coil over kits valued at $2,300 was won by Sharon point leader Will Thomas III.
Jason Knowles, who made the long tow down from Corning, NY to compete, drew the Lincoln Electric Power Mig 140C Welder & Utility Cart valued at $700. Lincoln Electric will give a second welder and utility cart to one lucky FASTRAK racer this Saturday at Sharon Speedway in conjunction with the Lincoln Electric Corporate Night!
There were four other separate drawings with the number pulled corresponding to the driver’s final placement at the end of the night. The top prize was a $1,000 off the purchase of a Rocket Chassis, which was awarded to Ben Black. Last year, Black was the winner of the Sweeney Chevrolet GM 604 engine valued at over $5,000! It was certainly a good night for Black, whose ninth place finish was his best Tour finish since an eighth on May 29, 2010 at Sharon! Black also finished second in the K&N Dash and received a $50 certificate. He was awarded six sheets of aluminum valued at $360 compliments of Wrisco and also earned a $50 Keizer certificate!
The two other special drawings were a $500 apparel package compliments of Speedwrapz won by Jason Stanke and half-off a complete set of Late Model bird cages valued at $450 compliments of BSB Manufacturing.
Some drivers captured four prizes like Matt Latta. The second-place Sharon point man and ninth place Tour competitor, picked the package of six sheets of Wrisco Aluminum ($360), earned a complete custom wrap by Speedwrapz ($700) by finishing seventh (undrawn prize), a $50 Keizer certificate, and the two cases of Quaker State Racing Oil ($100)!
The racing itself was nothing short of spectacular. The night kicked off with Max Blair holding off Mike Pegher, Jr. to win the May 27 $1,500 to-win make-up event. In the night’s regularly scheduled feature, it was a role reversal as Pegher out-dueled Blair in a thriller that kept the fans on the edge of their feature, which could easily be considered one of the best races of the season.
The make-up event was part of the two-day Bill Emig Memorial “Wild Card Weekend,” which was contested over Memorial Day Weekend. Blair was also the winner of the May 26 event. Those two feature scores added to his card draws of seven and ten each night earned him the “Wild Card Weekend Championship,” worth $500. Last year, his father Rob was crowned champion. Blair outgained Joe Martin and Will Thomas by seven points, who tied for second. John Over and Josh Double tied for fourth with 72 points. Martin and Thomas earned $350 each, while $150 went to both Over and Double. Complete final points are posted under Points at www.fastraknortheast.com.
