Who y'all thinking will be there?? Other than regular Saturday night drivers
Well, Gregg Satterlee will be there, but the problem is there are a million other Late Model races next weekend, including Lucas Oil at Virginia Motor Speedway, WoO at Pevely, MO., Buckeye Classic at Muskingum Co., Harvest 50 at Skyline, $4,000 to win at Little Valley, and a regular show at Wayne County.

Watching the " little guy" might draw in hard core die hard fans like you and gear head but after I seen the crowd and atmosphere at the world 100 having top name drivers racing for big money draws fans !! and having state of the art brand new track prep equiptment and constantly redoing to track makes for exciting action. the heat race action at eldroa is flat out nasty !! watch the last 5 laps of the world 100 from last year and the battle those guys had for the win , local guys for the most part arent capable of racing like that its no different than watching a single a highschool game compared to the nfl. When people spend big money to watch dirt track races they expect to see the best of the best compete. and from a driver/ car owner stand point id rather race against the best of the best because those guys hold a line, they dont use the mario cart line like 50% of the locals do. There some guys out there you can race side by side with all day and not touch and there other guys/"drivers" you get within 40 ft and they hammer you EVERY time, when you go to eldora or the dtwc you can run side by side with anyone in the top 10 of a heat race without touching and that makes the action more exciting for the fans and drivers. I understand with out the fans you cant keep the place open but without cars theres nothing for fans to watch and as a fan I wouldnt pay extra to see the same guys I do every week race for more money.I'm guessing there will be around 25-30 cars. Almost all of them Lernerville and PPMS (or both) regulars. There will be one or two surprises like Satterlee and Lux, but that's about it. Which is alright. It's not very often that regular local/regional dudes get to run for 10k that close without having to deal with the Lucas/WoO regulars.
I'd like to see PPMS bump the purse to 30k to win and 1k to start next season. With both tours scheduled against it , it would be like the huge race for the little guy. You'd get a bunch of surprise visitors at a race like that like Challenger got for Fall Fest the last couple years.

The Miley's used to have a prestigious high paying race on their schedule at the end of the season, but they figured out they could get away with paying out less to the racer and charging the same or more to the fan under the guise of "rewarding the regional racer" when you have guys like Gearhead and Flash coming on here and parroting how they prefer to pay 45/70 to watch Keith Barbara and Gregg Satterlee for 10k to win than pay 45/70 to watch Scott Bloomquist and Darrell Lanigan for 30k 1,000 to start like you mentioned. Every Miley wins!
Of course, who am I kidding, if it was 30k to win and 1,000 to start, it would cost 75 bucks for a two day pass and 100 to get in the pits.

Pardon me for just being a race fan, Abe. I saw Bloomquist and Lanigan at the Firecracker, was a pretty boring race. If it wasn't for Eddie Carrier and Jared Miley, the race would have been a bust. I can see these "big names" numerous other times throughout the area if I choose, but since the actual racing at these shows is ususally subpar, I prefer the regular shows at Lernerville and PPMS. In my opinion, the actual racing at these tracks is second to none.

I can't believe this, but on some level I agree with you. Paying 30k to the same 30-40 cars that always show at PPMS would draw a decent, but not great crowd.
But a purse like that would draw some random "big names" like Challenger did for last couple Fall Fests. The dudes that don't run tours, like Mars, Birkhofer, Van Wormer, Moran, Shaver, James, Carrier etc...
And another thing I can't believe I'm going to say this either, but the likelihood of guys like that showing would go up exponentially if the format included qualifying. I much prefer pill draw, but I get that "big name'' racers aren't really fans of it. If you want to have a "big" show, you need those big names to make the crowd worth it. I suggest group qualifying. Maybe an invert wheel that fast time would spin like Eldora uses to spice things up a lil' bit.
Or convincing the WoO or Lucas to sanction the race again instead of the races they currently sanction might be prudent. But use the format I suggested instead of blatant straight up heats. (but 0 would be on the invert wheel, so if it happens, it happens). Matt Miley recently expressed interest in getting a Lucas race, I can imagine the same interest would exist in WoO if it was mutually beneficial. I mean, they have worked together before so I could see them revisiting that, ya know.
I'd just like to see the Pittsburgher become truly special again.

This year's program includes qualifying so we'll see how many extra cars they get. The only positive side of qualifying is you may get some surprises to show up, otherwise they are pretty much worthless. The only way to make the Pittsburgher a national event again is to try to match what Lernerville is doing with the Firecracker. The racing at the Firecracker isn't that great, but the fans like it and it fills the grandstands, and at the end of the day that's all that matters.

I see better racing at other events. None of the Firecrackers have been on par with some of the North/South's, Hillbilly's, or DTWC's that I've seen over the years. None of the Firecrackers have been great yet but the crowds will always be there because of the event it has turned into.

And every race you just listed runs qualifying and then heats With a minimal invert !! Hmmm Maybe qualifying doesnt make races boring ... I have no problem with the old stars format of inverting the top 24 in the heats as long as theres 6 heats so an inversion of no more than 4 cars for less cars the inversion should be the number of heats times 4. And I also think you need to fast time to not transfer provisionals like the dtwc and eldora to prevent sandbagging. Features races should absolutely be run straight up based on heats just because you had the fastest car in the heat doesnt mean $hit come feature time !!I see better racing at other events. The two best races I saw all year were the Summernationals races at Attica and Oakshade which were both time trial shows that started everything heads-up and even had single-file restarts in all of the events, so I will admit that with the incredible track prep at those facilities the format didn't matter much. The track prep has more to do with the racing quality than the format, but I still hate qualifying and single-file restarts.

did you see the machine eldora uses with the spinning heads that grinds the dirt into little peices ?? Every track should have one of those there isnt a rock the size of a pebble on that race track and even when it was wet and hammer down i didnt use any tearoffs at all. prepping a track without the equiptment eldora has is like trying to run a cabinet making business without a table saw, a jointer and an industrial spindle shaper !! The equiptment most tracks use if the equvilent to building cabinets with a chisel and a 2 man tree saw !! that sick wall to wall trap prep is was causes that rediculous action that packs the place with fans , if you cant afford that type of equiptment you cant afford to own a race track...The two best races I saw all year were the Summernationals races at Attica and Oakshade which were both time trial shows that started everything heads-up and even had single-file restarts in all of the events, so I will admit that with the incredible track prep at those facilities the format didn't matter much. It's a rotary harrow and is a great piece of equipment. They use them at Charlotte too. You have to get out to Attica and Oakshade sometime. Attica is a thing of beauty when it's disked down deep and nothing but mud. Then they run it in with Terragators, which are the best run-in vehicles you can buy. Track prep is an art-form, unfortunately not too many tracks realize it.

You mean to tell me pissing on the track after a night of heavy drinking then running a couple of old beaters around it isnt incredible track prep ?? Ive always been told it was... at least on this boardIt's a rotary harrow and is a great piece of equipment. They use them at Charlotte too. You have to get out to Attica and Oakshade sometime.
