Also 99% of big name engine failures are the result of the Owner not listening to everything the engine builder told him
THat is correct ...Legend! Most failures are due to abuse, or lack of maintainence! If youy pay attention..the same guys allways seem to be having motor trouble....no matter who built it! Here is a good rule of thumb when buying a used piece! Allways buy it from the builder that originally built and maintained it! They won't lie to you for the last owner because thier reputation is on the line! I also recomend staying with one of the top builders in the area! Malquit....Draine......Hershey......Egde.....Baker....... Cornett....Hilll......Kriner.........Clements.......Roush Yates....... Custom.....Ect......ect..... For sure....you don't want to buy a used engine from another racer that you don't know! they all have 200 laps on them from the last rebuild and blow up in two nights! And I wouldn't recomend buying anything that you know has 3500 or moore total laps since new and still has the original parts, regardless of the number of freshenups! Just my.02

Yep. I got into an argument with Jeep Van Wormer's crew chief via pms on 4m a couple years back when I made the very same comment. Jeep had blown 7, yes, 7 motors in two months and I mentioned that it was all about maintenance and/or gearing. He begged to differ. In an especially nasty manner. I've noticed that since then Jeep has run a very limited schedule. Maybe Jeep woke up...

Also...how long you last in this division will be determined by several other things! Finances....Help....Intelligence....ability ...... and Spirit It takes everything to be a racer! We all know that! But a lot of engine problems don't need to be as bad as they are made! For instance....if your engine is Hot....Misses......Has low oil pressure... Makes a unidentifiable noise.......PARK IT! Every season I see guys make a small problem terminal! A good storie....About ten years ago A friend of mine had his oil pump belt come of at the track! He had a spare! I told him....."Don't even put that on" Load it up! You can't loose a belt and not have bearing damage! I came to race.....and my wife wants to race..... So he put the spare belt on! Once he was done I went over to inspect and took a pair of tin snips with me! I proceeded to cut his new belt off! He was Pissed! Till the next day when they pulled the motor and found three spun bearings! Intelligence goes a long way in this sport! And if the unthinkable does happen...(Your engine starts to really make noise) (come appart) Shut it off quickly as possible! No sence holding it down for that extra 25 feet! And ruin everything! I have seen it all in the last 40 years! Including guys that raced for many years continue to run an engine with no water in it till it melts down!!! But hey...they were leading the points?????

Let me tell ya it doesnt matter whose name is behind a race motor nor does the driver name mean anything, bottom line is when you invest in a motor to race with there is no guarantee, one big factor when choosing a motor is how much time is on all the parts, doesnt matter if its just been freshened if there are 2 or 3 seasons on the internals thats not good, part failure or fatigue is alot of what happens,so when choosing make time on internals a priority over engine builder name.Gary vallies at Pmi he does a good job he builds mike bloses late model motor which is a top runner

You have no clue .... The famous engine builders are on a level 10 steps beyond any local builders. Building top flight engines isn't just a matter of tightening bolts. You also miss the fact big name engine builders don't reinstall questionable pieces , they won't risk their reputation putting their name on junk. If a rod shows a crack you get 8 new rods. The best dirt late model engine builder in the country is jack Cornett . Have an in depth conversation with him and then talk to a local builder and then tell me there's not a difference.Let me tell ya it doesnt matter whose name is behind a race motor nor does the driver name mean anything, bottom line is when you invest in a motor to race with there is no guarantee, one big factor when choosing a motor is how much time is on all the parts, doesnt matter if its just been freshened if there are 2 or 3 seasons on the internals thats not good, part failure or fatigue is alot of what happens,so when choosing make time on internals a priority over engine builder name.

Saying that Jack Cornett is the best engine builder in the country is a stretch! Saying he is one of the best is more like it! The Famous engine builders seem to attract customers that have Wallets ten steps beyond the customers of local builders! I have seen some hatchet work come from some of the supposed famous builders as well as the locals! It all boils down to your ability to pay! If you get a ten grand rebuild bill from old Jack.......you stroke a check! He knows that going in! Others aren't on that level! Hence .....instead of a Sonny Bryandt crankshaft.....they get something about Two grand cheaper! That last 1/3 the time and weighs ten pounds moore! I have two big dollar engines from down South in Huntersville North Carolina! They are great engines that make great numbers!(I didn't pay for them, or I wouldn't have them) And I have I have a couple engines from the Central Pa area! Great engines as well that make just as much power on the dyno and cost significantly less! A Dart Block....A Dyer rod....A Jessel rocker....a JE Piston..... A Sonny Bryandt crank Are all the same pieces no matter who sells them to you! They just cost moore at certain builders! Moore than likely....the best builders are working for Nascar...or did at one time! And they Blow up on Sunday afternoon as well! So take it from there! They key is maintainence and keep the internals fresh! Everything in that engine has a time limit! Will it make it or not!
