The Speed Channel will be gone as of August 17 and replaced by Fox Sports 1. I'm sad to see it go, but it never really became what I had hoped. It sounds like FS1 will concentrate on NASCAR trucks, UFC, college basketball and MLB games. Oh well, always Dirtvision.

I was disappointed with it as well. Too much NASCAR coverage, too much monster truck BS. They did have some stuff worth watching, but during NASCAR season, it might as well have been renamed The NASCAR Network.

Maybe some other cable network will develop a channel for motorsports fans that isn't overrun by NASCAR. We shall see.

I say bring back TNN....

The fact is dirt track racing does not bring in the sponsorship dollars and revenue to make it profitable for the networks to televise races and even with the WoO and Forrest Lucas's money it still isn't enough for the networks to do it on a regular basis.

Until someone steps up and lays down NASCAR, F1, NHRA, type money and sponsorship return for broadcast rights I doubt you'll see anymore coverage than what we have now.

You would have thought with all the racing that goes on in this country they would have more of it on tv. Are you faster than a redneck really?????

To add on to this... the dirt racing that was on SPEED WoO, Lucas any of it really, was paid for entirely by WRG or Forrest Lucas. It's not like the channel put it on because it felt tons of people wanted it (although I do have a buddy that works for SPEED, and he told me that the WoO World Finals was among the highest rated shows every year).

If WoO and Lucas wanted to put dirt racing on the "new" channel, I'm sure they still could... although the asking price almost assuredly will go up exponentially.

It's a shame that in the late 80's & early 90's, there were 2 truly great weekly racing highlight programs that covered all forms of racing from F-1 to dirt tracks - ESPN's 'Speedweek' & TBS's 'Motorweek Illustrated'. Miss both of them big time!!

When in doubt....GAS IT!!

And the best one of all was Pat Patterson's show On Pit Road on TNN.

Chase the checkered at Jennerstown Speedway. They had an hour show that came on the Johnstown Fox affliate for a few years. They started out with heat race winners, and then showed the Super Late feature (cutting out yellow flag laps), and parts of the other races. A really good show. I wish Lernerville had a show like that.

I really never watched SPEED for the most part because there really didn't seem like there was a whole hell of a lot dirt related programming on it. Two week old Lucas Races and an 2 live/semi-live Outlaw events both at Charlotte, and I'm at World Finals in person every year. Hindsight being 20/20, I wish the powers that be would have worked a relationship with Versus/NBC Sports Network a few years ago when it was experimenting with fringe or lesser known sports programming. We possibly could have had a few DIRT crown jewels live or semi live. The places where a sellout is basically guaranteed. Maybe Chili Bowl, Knoxville Nats, Dream or World possibly, though Syracuse would be a tough go because it opposes NFL football on a Sunday. You can argue that dirt racing on TV doesn't attract new fans, but as far as promotion goes, it does keep it in the forefront, somewhat relevant. Enough that a casual or former fan can glance the channels, spot it and say "Hmmm, when was the last time I went to a race?"

Addicted to Dirt, no therapy or rehab for me please, I'll just learn to live with it. http://thedirtnetwork.blogspot.com/ The DIRT Network

Do you mean the Speed TV Channel itself done? Or its just not going to be a part of your local cable network? I cannot find any reports anywhere that Speed TV is closing the doors, or merged with FS1 or anything of the sorts. Have any other details? Thanks!

I did like Lucas on the EDGE it was pretty good and I did enjoy watching Gearz or Chop cut rebuild but I do agree to much monster trucks and too much dumb shows.
