There are a lot of asphalt cars available right now to run at CNB park. All of the ones that are sitting from Lake Erie, Jennerstown and Motordrome. I have heard there are actually quite a few asphalt street stocks still around...So if someone would run those say once a month, maybe on Sunday afternoon, they just might make it work.

Of the very limited things that can be shared publicly right now, I can assure you this is not part of the plan. Sorry.

All I can divulge at this time is an interested operator of the facility has come to agreeable terms in principle to the point it has been entered into the legal phase. As you read this, the contract is being written (if not actually finished) and will be reviewed, lawyer-checked and hopefully signed very, very soon.

Of all the questions you may have, all I can say is the new operator will release what information you'll all be seeking on here post-legal work being completed.

The contending operator is a local man with decades of experience in dirt racing. He has grown up under the very shadow of Clearfield Speedway and treasures its history as much as anyone else that frequents the track. I would hope you'll be pleased with his thoughts, ideas and commitment going forward even at the acknowledgement that you can't please everyone.

This post is being made with his knowledge and permission. The main reason is that he only wish for you to know that things are progressing and to clarify that the original post has nothing to do with the new receivership of the speedway.

Track name: As the cliché goes, this is truly putting the wagon in front of the horses until all paperwork is complete. As of right now, no new name has been chosen.

Track size: Looking past the legal thing and assuming all goes well, this still has no definitive answer yet. There really are factors involved which will dictate if the 1/2 mile is restored or not. I know, before you jump down my throat as I said he "treasures its history as much as anyone else" it's still not as cut-n-dry as it seems. An actual decision may be made after this weekend (as will, hopefully, a good deal of other questions).

Weekly Racing: It's not part of the plan, as of now.

New Clay: It's being looked into.

"Grown up under the very shadow of Clearfield Speedway" "A local man with decades of experience in dirt track racing" After reading those two quotes there's only a couple of names that keep popping into my head. Hmmm.....

It has been a long time since the "big" half mile was used as a dirt track. The 3/8 mile was bad fast so one can only imagine the speed today's late models could turn if the entire track was converted back to dirt/clay. Either way it's good news there may be some type of racing there in the future.

Good news that something is in the works for the track. No matter what surface, configuration, format, ect. I hope the person who is looking into the place has the desire and the resources to keep up with the place. As much as I enjoyed the shows last year on the asphalt, I know that I was in the minority, and that asphalt most likely isn't the key to future success there. Best of luck and bring on the Yankee Doodle!!!

Well if this is true my hope would be for the new owner to bring back the glory days of the 5/8 ths mile track and call it Clearfield Speedway once again. ;)

For me personally, I'll give Americas Motorsports Park my allegience. Jeff Taylor has moved into the area to ressurect a 'lost cause' and spent 18 months, countless hours and $$$$$ in bringing back regular racing to the area. He has contacted other tracks in the area to try and work in with them for the benifet of all concerned and been shunned, yet he continues to forge ahead. And with the local racer at heart, he has organised and hosted a benifet and raised a considerable sum of money for a local racer who lost everything through a workshop fire. He has also breathed new life into the local Shopping Mall show, which was sadly spiralling downward. And all this before a shot has been fired in anger at the revamped facility. Conversely, the former Central PA Speedway has done nothing for the sport locally in recent times and still nothing is proposed, yet here is an outpouring of support for the facility and whomever takes it over without scant consideration to someone who has invested his heart and soul into and initaiated bringing back racing to the Clearfield area. If this facility has indeed been bought by a local with 'decades of experience in dirt track racing', then why has he stepped forward now and not in the past 5 or 6 years when the area has been screaming for a regular racing venue? Why now when there is already someone ressurecting a track locally? This town is just not big enough to accomodate 2 Speedways... someone will fail. For me, Jeff Taylor stepped forward, put his money and heart into the old Hidden Valley and put the local racer first.... and thats where my allegience will lay. And as for my Club, Class and Series, we will support those that support us and AMP has pledged its support to us going forward. Jim 'Dingo' Kirkwood

i fully support jeff as well and will be there every weekend that time will allow....central pa just holds a special place for me and always will...wondering if in the future jeff will put on some shows the magnitude of some stuff that central ran (woo late models, all star sprints, 2,000 street stock specials)

You read too much into stuff. I don't see where anyone is taking sides, nor, where anyone is being asked to take sides, except for you. Jeff and AMP have my full support, and I am thrilled that he has taken on the task of rebuilding that facility and will bring weekly racing back to Clearfield. I haven't heard anyone in this area complaining about the re-opening of AMP. My only regret is that work committments have not allowed me to be there to help, and those same commitments will also keep me from attending each week.

Having said that, I do think there is room for both tracks. CPS in my opinion is not viable as a weekly track in this area, I can't even imagine what the cost to compete at a large track on a weekly basis are, but I'm sure it is a lot more than running on a 1/4 or 1/3 mile track. However, it is a great place for a few specials a year. The seating capacity alone allows the track to hold large "events" that draw teams and fans from across the region to the Clearfield area. No one can convince me that any track in this general area has ever drawn a crowd that would match some of the crowds that CPS drew. To say that CPS has done nothing for the sport locally is a crock. They offered the highest payouts in the region for the Street / Pro Stock division at thier specials, and brought some high paying Late Model events to the area. Fans in this area were given the opportunity to see some $5,000 and $10,000 to win shows as well as a World of Outlaw Late Model Event and All Star Sprint Event without having to travel 2 or 3 hours. Do I think they could have done more for the local racers? Sure, I do. After the late model counts jumped up, a lot of the local teams quit coming. I think CPS could have alternated the street stocks with a steel block late model special from time to time to give the local teams a show of thier own.

Time will tell, but I really doubt that CPS will be a weekly track no matter what surface is used, and I'm not holding my breath till something happens either. We've been through this before, and until the first race is scheduled, I'll take the wait and see approach. Having AMP as a weekly venue with a few specials sprinkled in during the season, and ALSO having CPS as a specials only track for a few BIG events would be a great situation for this area in my opinion.

In any event the bit track was fast, real fast with either surface. I just hope that the interested party isn't an owner from years past...... The word 'mismanagement' comes to mind.

If you go to www.raceny.com theres a thread on that board about Clearfield staying asphalt with a list of interested drivers, the new track owners name, and a link to a K&N schedule that has Clearfield scheduled for a race in July.

Schedules can change. Two years ago they had another Outlaw show cancelled before they decided they weren't going to open that season. Dirt or asphalt, doesn't matter to me, I'll be there if they run.
