Thanks again Lube for the great pics. Dingo I can't think of any driver that could run Mercer like Ralph Quarterson. When we were running Semi Lates at Mercer I was standing in the infield watching him go around there and I couldn' believe how fast he could go ' he ran it in deep.

No worries.... the swapping and changing of cars and numbers from al these guys is confusing. One minute I se a blue #66 coupe running around and everyone says its Quarterson, next minute he's racing a different car and different number. Doesn't anyone stick to the same number and become synonymous with it around here?

It always depended on who they drove for, if the owner already had a number often times the driver drove with whatever number the owner wanted to have on it. Ralph mostly drove for different owners. I know it is a bit confusing but a lot of us on the forum grew up watching these old time drivers so we remember a lot of the cars they drove. Do they do it differently down under Dingo ?

The #66 Sprints Ralph drove, if I remember correctly, were owned by Jim Zeigler, and that was his number. "Old Blue" was owned by a couple of Butler fellows named Oesterling and Montag. Not sure why it was numbered 66. The #11 Mods and I believe the Sprints with the same number were owned by Tom Felicity, who, I think, is Ralph's father-in-law.

If I'm wrong on any of that info, I apologize in advance.

To answer you're last question, yes. Many people run the same number year in and year out, especially if they own, or are part owner of their car(s).

It is a tribute to many of the area drivers that they could jump in to many different rides owned by different folks and still win with them.

My nephew married a girl that was related to the Montags , the owner is her Mom's brother. The other Montag girl was married to Dave Rettig , I am not sure if Dave was also a part owner or not. Dave passed away a few years ago , but we had some fun talking about that car and old time racing at the family events. When Dave found out I used to be on a pit crew we would always go off somewhere and talk racing , these pics bring back a lot of memories. Dave told me one time where that 66 car was but I have CRS disease and can't remember. You seem to have a lot of old pics Lube ,we sure appreciate you sharing them.

Randy Chronister bought the old Bob Rice 28 and ran it for years. I don't know if he still has it or not.

Nick Lupe owned the blue 66 that Ralph drove in the sprint division. That number came from his dad's car number that Ted Wise used to drive.
