I saw some great races that Yip was in. He could run with the best of them. I think what made a lot of the Western Pa. drivers great was tracks like Butler , that old Fairgrounds track was tight and guys like YIP , Jack West , Bob Wearing and the other greats got really good at coming up through traffic , when they were up front and came up to lapped cars they knew how to get through them very quickly. My condolences to the Robinson family , Chris was in my High School Class , RIP , YIP.

I only had the opportunity to watch Yip drive in a "special" at the old Clearfield Speedway on the hill where the truck stop is now located. He and Bob Wearing drove the Rice Racing team 8 balls. If my memory serves me I believe it was 1961 or 62. It was a hot afternoon race and those two dominated the class. Yip had his cigar in his mouth the whole race. Sure was something to see. R.I.P.

I liked racing better when guys raced real "highway" cars from the junk yards. We will never see those days again!!

Walt

Walt,

What is the man's name that used to own the Purina car that Yip drove?

I raced with him at Knox in 1972 and in the pay line he told me the reason his 66 Chevelle hooked up so well on the wet track was because it weighed 4400#; an educated member of my "crew" later advised me that the more weight you have, the more you have to push. He had me convinced though...............

Where does Yip's son live and do you have a number for him? Things might be different now as that was 8 years ago.
