Horton, St Myers, Zappardo, and Cornett Open 2007 Season at Waynesfield with Victory.
While the fans and competitors arrived to a race track with sunny skies and warm temperatures Mother Nature tried to rain on our parade. She thankfully was unsuccessful in her attempt to wash the night away but there was about an hour delay. Four drivers grabbed opening feature wins and began their drive for a Waynesfield Motorsports Park track title.
First up in the Mini-Sprint feature Jared Horstman had a significant lead and was looking at lapping the entire field when suddenly he stopped under caution. Reports from the pits say that he ran out of fuel. After the caution it was Hud Horton who then took control of the race grabbing the checkered flag at the end of the twenty lap feature.
Our four-cylinder trucks were up next and from the beginning Anthony Zappardo and “Wild Bill” Harman set the tone for the entire feature trading the lead back and forth several times during the race. Late in the race lapped traffic were having their own battle for position when the 21z went high to take the lead for good and along with that the A-Main victory.
In the Modifieds A the 4s of Doug St. Myers and the 18 of Jon Henry were clearly the class of the field with each spending time at the point. During the early to mid-point of the race it was Henry at times legging out the advantage using lapped traffic to perfection to grab a big lead. St. Myers though kept his patience clawing his way back to the front taking the lead for good in the late stages of the race giving him a large cushion at the end to stand on the highest step of the podium.
Last up for the evening was the Stock Car portion of our program and even though the car count was low for the evening the racing did not disappoint. The 35 of Tim Cornett along with the 58p of James Post battled for the lead back and forth throughout the entire feature. To go with that William Gross and Mark “Bonzai” Burns spent the A-Main trading third and forth with each other. In the end the 35 with a rear fender that seemingly waived at the crowd with each pass of the grandstands was too strong and took the feature win.
The entire staff at Waynesfield Motorsports Park would like to thank all of our fans and competitors for waiting out the rain delay.
