Threat of severe storms!!! You can blame this one on the weather forecasters who were several hours or more off on their predictions!!
According to Greg Wheeling all mover facebook it was the late model teams fault.

Were Sharon Speedway officials and ULMS teams forced to act according to the weather forecasters' predictions?Threat of severe storms!!! You can blame this one on the weather forecasters who were several hours or more off on their predictions!!
Sharon, by not canceling, showed that they believed the rain would hold off long enough to collect some money. ULMS teams ((save for the 7 (7?!) that traveled)), by not coming, showed they they believed the rain would not hold off long enough to complete a show or they were worried Sharon would pull the plug. Both were wrong, and it bit Sharon in the tail.

I'm not so sure you are correct with that statement. Were Sharon Speedway officials and ULMS teams forced to act according to the weather forecasters' predictions?

ULMS teams ((save for the 7 (7?!) that traveled)), by not coming, showed they they believed the rain would not hold off long enough to complete a show or they were worried Sharon would pull the plug. In this time of economic struggle, tracks regularly have come under fire for pulling the plug when it looks like the weather will play part in the teams/fans showing up. Obviously this would impact their opportunity for generating a profit that evening and race tracks are a business.
I have absolutely no idea if Sharon Speedway, ULMS director Chris Zuver or Hamilton-Young (event coordinator) was in charge of the decision to race or cancel. Possibly it was all three together. Either way, the credibility of those in charge was boosted because they chose to continue with the event despite the economic feasibility.
Kudos to all of the above!
I believe you left out an important mention of who may have really bit the bullet on Wednesday night. And that would be teams like Blair, Briggs, Frank, Oakes, Davies, Rheberghen, DuPont, Hackett, Barbera, Barton, Valone, Johnson and anyone else who felt the might have won this $3K event or even placed in the top three. Certainly the threatening weather and the current economics entered into their decision and justifiably so. However, the way things turned out, it may impact their decisions to travel or stay home in the future.
Despite the weather threats, there was a fair sized crowd at the track. No doubt they were hoping for a larger turnout, but the show still went on as promoted!
Again, kudos to all of the above event organizers!

penn can had 67 modifieds the same night...plain and simple the late model guys dropped the ball by not supporting the show...rain or no rain if you wanna race go race
.......and 27 Sportsman. That's 94 cars in two classes for the math-challenged, on a Wednesday night (which was the rain date, the event was originally scheduled for Tuesday). And yes, there were only two classes on the card.
Keep in mind that the Penn Can show was promoted by Brett Deyo - who starts promoting and marketing his events months ahead of time.
To be honest, I did not even know about the race at Sharon on Wednesday until the day before it happened. I do not think that actual promotion of dirt track races even exists anymore. I never see or hear about:
1. Paid newspaper ads.
2. Paid television ads.
3. Paid radio ads.
4. Flyers on neighborhood utility poles or local businesses.
5. Etc., etc.
Posting event notices on boards like this just to keep those of us who already should know about an event really doesn't happen much anymore either. Basically, if I hadn't been attending dirt tracks (and even garnered a whopping three feature wins over a non-impressive three year driving stint) since I was a child, I would have no idea that dirt tracks even existed today. And you need more than those of us who should already know about it anyway.
Another piece of advice.................if someone actually does happen to promote something well and get a horde of new or casual dirt track fans to a dirt track................don't hold them hostage for 6 hours after covering them with dust. You'll never get them back.
DUST + DRAWN OUT PROGRAM = PEOPLE WONDERING WHY NO ONE IS SHOWING UP TO THE RACES
No more excuses about the economy either, as movies continually break box office and sales records to this day. Video games fly of the store shelves faster than they can be replaced. And that is your direct competition (among others).
It's a new time. It's 2013. There is more competition for the casual fan now than there ever was prior. Dirt track promoters (if there is still such a thing) simply have not kept up with the times.
Blaming the ecomony is easy. Promoting is hard. No, I don't want the job. I'm just trying to help out a cause that I've supported since childhood.....................since I'm close to giving up on it myself.

And not a single one of those 67 modifieds was from western Pennsylvania. That point is completely irrelevant.
Look, I am one of the few folks around here with a deep affinity for northeastern style modifieds. I get it. But please, for the love of God, shut the f*ck about them. It's embarassing seeing you bring them up in every topic.

Penn Can is like 5 hours to the east of Sharon. There was no threat of the weather over there. So your point doesn't hold water at all.how about you go f*ck yourself....the point was they showed up and raced with the "weather" that seems to the excuse sharon is using...what does western pa guys have to do with any freaking thing to begin with
