Marion Center Speedway – July 3, 2013- Independence Day Special Marion Center Speedway ran its Independence Day Special Wednesday night, July 3 despite the early evening “monsoon” that swept through the area just prior to the scheduled race time. Track officials were determined to run in the track for the Marc Sallack Well Services and Trucking show to go on that also included a fireworks display. Once the track was race ready, the cars ran hot laps prior to the racing to “test the water” and make sure their setups were good for track conditions- which were near perfect thanks to the staff’s perseverance and the water was not an issue. Also thanks to all the fans who stuck with us and waited out the storm and running in of the track for a spectacular night of entertainment. The Lias Tire Latemodel feature got off to a rough start, bringing out the caution three times before the first lap was completed. But once things settled down, Shawn Claar took control of the race from his outside pole starting position. Claar, from Imler, moved into the lead right from the start and never let up. He had enough power to stay ahead of the field charging up behind him with Clate Copeman from Greensburg leading that charge. Copeman was able to stay close to Claar for sometime, but Claar seemed to little by little expand his lead and take all the laps to the checkered flag gathering up the $3000 top prize and trophy from Marc Sallack Well Services and Trucking in the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s circle. As the forerunners of the field approached the back of the pack, the slower traffic hampered Copeman’s progress enough that Matt Lux from Franklin was able to find an opening to get around Copeman and the cars lapped by the leader to take over second place on the final trip around the track. When the checkered flag flew, Claar was victorious, Lux was second and Copeman took third. Doug Glessner from Johnstown who started on the pole finished fourth and Dave Blazavich of Marion Center who started tenth moved up to a fifth place finish. Matt Gaston from Rochester Mills who gained entry into the big money feature by winning the Lias Tire Super Latemodel Consolation Race, finished sixth just ahead of Jared Miley from South Park, Mike Blose of New Bethlehem, Billy Eash from Johnstown, and Doug Eck of Cory for the top ten. The rest of the twenty-five car field finished the thirty-five lap feature in the order of: Bernie Whiteford, Jeff Weakland, Dane Laraway, John Myers, Joe Petyak, Bill Burns, Chad Helman, Tom Shaffer, Gregg Satterlee, Rod Phillips, Joe Zulisky, Dwayne Brooks, and Ron Delano. Jim Boyer and Shane McMeans got caught up in cautions prior to the first lap and left the race without being able to complete a lap. Four heats of Lias Tire Super Latemodels were run and those were won by Dane Laraway, Shawn Claar, Doug Glessner, and Jared Miley. The number of cars also necessitated a consolation race which as mentioned earlier was won by Matt Gaston. The W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stocks were also running for top dollars and extended laps in the Marc Sallack Well Services and Trucking Night- The Independence Day Special. Brent Johnson from Brookville took the lead at the start from his outside pole position with Ray Hickok, Jr. of Commodore following right behind him. Hickok was able to make a pass on Johnson after the first eight laps were completed to take over the lead. Hickok was pursued by Johnson until Johnson spun out and was out of the race. While the battle was going on at the front of the field, Nate Smith of Glen Campbell was making his way from the last starting position through the pack of nineteen cars to finally arrive at the front just past the half way mark. Smith took over the lead of the thirty lap feature for laps seventeen through thirty to once again appear in Marion Center Speedway’s Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle. Rusty Martz from Brookville came charging on strong at the end of the race and was able to overtake Hickok but not catch Smith, for a second place finish. Bob Roseman of Sykesville also made it past Hickok to take third place leaving Hickok in fourth. Tim White from Punxsutawney maneuvered his way around the track to pick up fifth place after starting twelfth and Tim Burns of Greenville took sixth. Rounding out the top ten W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stocks were Jeff Sweeney, Scott Bowman, Chris Schneider and Tony Brown. Dale Yeaney, Brent Johnson and Rusty Martz were the winners of the heat races. The Marc Sallack Well Services and Trucking Independence Day Special also included the Best Kawasaki Micro-Sprints. It looked like a repeat of a regular racing night for the Micros as George Hobaugh from Carn City started on the outside pole and immediately took charge of the race. But after Hobaugh led the first eight laps he was overtaken by Sean McAndrew of Apollo. McAndrew started right behind Hobaugh in the second row and saw his opportuninty for the lead and took it. Hobaugh fought back but was unsuccessful at taking back the lead and had to settle for second place. Sean McAndrew got the glory and paycheck and trophy from Marc Sallack Well Services and Trucking in the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle. Hobaugh took second place and David Hawkins of Lower Burrell was third. Robert Garvey, Jr. finished fourth and R J Robertson from Delmont was fifth. Next across the finish line was Jeff Fehaefki followed by Brandon Hawkins, Al Cavoto, Lee Lehnerd and Tim White for the top ten. In the Best Kawasaki Micro-Sprint heat races the winners were Sean McAndrew, David Hawkins and Ryan Fredericks. In addition to the fantastic racing program, race fans were also treated to a fireworks show as part of the Marc Sallack Well Services and Trucking Night. The Marion Center Speedway Kid’s Club was also active Wednesday night and Kid’s Club members were given a Fourth of July freebie and entered to win special door prizes. This coming Saturday be sure to join us at the “Thrill on the Hill,” Marion Center Speedway for another exciting round of racing in all six divisions Plus Kid’s Bike Races! After Saturday night’s activities are concluded, Marion Center Speedway will be gearing up to host the 9TH Annual Indiana County Fire Chiefs Association Firefighters Convention. The Firefighters Convention will take place at the track grounds from Wednesday July 10 through Sunday July 14 and includes a whole bunch of family activities such as small rides, games and vendors plus entertainment nightly. DJs and bands such as MoMAD, Riding Shotgun, Brian Miller and New Roots will be performing in the evenings in addition to the firefighters activities like “ Battle of the Barrel” and “Bucket Brigade.” The Convention continues into Sunday July 14 with a car/truck show and flea market and more musical entertainment. With the hosting of the Firefighters Convention, Marion Center Speedway will not be racing Saturday, July 13 so leave the racecar in the garage but still come out to Marion Center Speedway for nightly entertainment. The “Fastrak” folks have announced that Marion Center Speedway will be part of a triple-crown weekend of Fastrak racing on July 27. Our Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Fastrak Crate Latemodels will be joined on that date by other drivers in a sanctioned feature paying $2000 to win. Raceway 7, OH and Eriez Speedway in PA will make up the other points of the crown on Friday and Sunday as the sanctioned Fastrak Crate Latemodels visit the area this summer. I'm not real familiar with the situation, but from what I have read this Nate is beating everyone very week with a car purpose built to run that track under its rules (or lack of) and it is illegal to run anywhere else. If he wants to do that, then good for him. He's having a great season. If you can't stand being beat by him, you really have a few options.

1. Build a car to the limits like he has and hope to be able to set it up and drive it as well as he can.
2. Keep whining and crying that he is "cheating" and beating you, when he is really just beating you.
3. Take your car to one of the other tracks in the area where he is supposedly not legal and race cars you can compete with without getting out of hand.

Again, I have no clue what's supposed to be so different about his car, or why it is supposedly illegal everywhere. Just my observations and what seem like obvious ways to deal with the situation without bashing him constantly.

i have no dog in the fight but i think most SS RULES AROUND HERE ARE 406 CUBIC IN,which he is not i believe ,so some tracks he could not run, but where he races i believe he is perfectly legal to run with what ever he has jmo
