Dave Murdick leads the way in EXPO BRP Modified Tour action; Rusty Wheeler outlasts the competition in Stocks. By Jim Balentine. (Youngstown,Ohio) Veteran Dave Murdick from Butler ,Pa who began racing at Expo Speedway when it reopened in 1980 with his father’s 1932 Chevy coupe used his knowledge of the big 5/8 mile track to lead flag to flag to win his second BRP Modfied Tour event held during the annual Trumbull County Fair Thursday night July 11th. The 2nd generation Murdick led the entire 30 lap event that was hampered by other drivers suffering mechanical problems after challenging Murdick for the top spot. Previous Expo winner Rex King Jr was the only driver who could keep up with Murdick challenging him lap after lap but retired to the pits with less than ten laps to go. The New York state contingent fared almost the same fate as these drivers who are used to the big tracks in the New York area failed to conquer the 5/8 mile at Expo. After a late race caution Murdick pulled away and took the popular win over Brad Rapp, Jeremiah Shingledecker and Rex King Sr. who came from the rear to end up 4th and Rick Richner. It was his second win at Expo in his long career. Dillon Barr who flipped in turn one during hot laps was able to start the feature event. In the companion Open Stock event Dorset Ohio’s Rusty Wheeler who is a multi time Raceway 7 track champ held on in a car that was falling apart with torn sheet metal lap after lap with a special motor built specifically for this event to win the 15 lap feature event. Bob Sloss ended up 2nd with Ed Bolyard, Dave Ferringer and Leigh Wheeler rounding out the top five. The second and final race at Expo Speedway for the 2013 season will be this Sunday July 14 with the rescheduled RUSH Crate Late Models and the UEMS Emods. Pit gates open at 11 am with hot laps at 1:30 and racing at 2 pm. The popular yearly demo derby will follow the racing. Tickets for the fair are just $8 and gets you into the racing and the demo for FREE. All haulers please use Gate A on Hoagland- Blackstub road to get your pit passes which will also get you into the fair. For more information please call the fair office at 330-637-6010. I was there and did up a story for the night's action available here at: http://www.dirttrack...-dtd-exclusive/

Also talked with Kevin Bolland about his suspension from DIRTcar and he stated it is still in the litigation process and thus cannot race at any DIRTcar sanctioned event. He's thought about making the trek to a few non-DIRTcar tracks but it is a great distance to travel.

Kevin Bolland was never scheduled to compete at Expo.Where did you get that idea? Jim Balentine reported on the races-not- the soap opera! Previous topics have stated that Bolland wasn't competing.End of subject. Balentine also worked turn 2 and that's a long way from anything-but-he sure had a good look at the races!
