Another way to look at it is how much horsepower compared to wht they weigh. 2,600 for a crate powered stock. I don't want to be in that car when a 3400 lb. car drives into it.

I ran a 406 in my emod that put out 630 HP on alky. So I changed to the same Dart heads but steel and have to run the 3310 carb on gas. Never dyno'd it but I would assume 575-600 with gas and the 3310? But I can tell you I am definitely not out motoring guys on the straights and to be honest that surprised me a little at first. I know for my Dad's race some guys told me they had close to $20K in their motors.

If they spent 20k on a wet sump 23 degree iron head street stock motor I hope jack Cornett built it

Agreed .... Someone was talking out of their ass. They aren't allowed to run shaft rockers , titanium valves and other such items that would run the price up ...

call rusty wheeler for current hp on prostocks.5years ago bofore switching to e-mods ours with mercer rules was 471 hp/441tq and won 2001 and 2004 championships. today they have much better heads and intakes but maybe 520 to 550 tops with a 3310 legal carb.

Jon- I've been asked to tell you that a pure stock driver who wishes to remain nameless does has $30,000 in his motor and yes he has shaft mount rockers, titanium valves, custom grind cam, light weight forged bottom end. . . Etc. Not that I'd spend that, but it is a reality for some of the big money pure stock teams!

There is nothing "pure" or "stock" about a 30k motor. Well, maybe pure insanity to invest that much money to run for peanuts.

Why do I like racing ? Well the colors are bright and there is a lot of movement, so it holds my attention.

If they have that much in a stock motor to run for the horrible purses stocks run for, why the heck wouldn't they pick up a used late model chassis and dump it in that and run for a lot more money?

Same reason guys build Yates engines to run emods for $350-500 for a weekly show!

Good point, but still 30k in stock car motor is absolutely ridiculous. And it shows an unbelievable lack of confidence in their driving abilities...

Geez... and we wonder why this division is dying. That seems like a bit much.
