Magic Mike Lutz returns to Victory Lane in the McMillin #5M
Murdick checkers first feature of 2013, Miley & Miller score third wins

Sarver, PA (July 26, 2013) Mike Lutz returned to Sheetz Victory Lane for the first time since 2009 behind the wheel of the Jim McMillin #5M tonight. Budweiser Title contenders, in the Peoples TWP Sprints, Carl Bowser and Brandon Matus were engaged in a dogfight for the lead mid-race, but Matus slid into Francis Sesco who had spun to a stop in turns one & two. Matus pitted to check for suspension/wheel/tire damage and Carl Bowser pitted after rolling to a stop under caution. Jack Sodeman Jr. was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for evaluation for back & neck pain after a four-car pile-up during heat race action. We will provide updates in the Race Report as reported by his family.

Jared Miley took advantage of a late race restart to pass Alex Ferree en route to his third win of the season in the Precise Late Models. Dave Murdick banged doors with Rex King Sr. at the flagstand on lap 17 and went on to pick up his first win of the season in the Diehl Mods. Mike Miller matched Miley’s feat with his third win of the season in the Pic-A-Part Sportsman after starting 12th due to winning last week’s feature.

Congratulations to Mike Lutz on a good drive. I'm hoping he is in that car more often than not. yeah, he caught a couple of breaks, but I'm sure he's lost them that way, too.

Not so sure I agree on the call of Brandon Matus having to go to the back after spinning into Sesco, the caution was already out, lights were already on when Brandon slid into Sesco. Definateley think that cost Brandon a win.

Brandon pitted afterward.

He was being sent to the back regardless of whether or not he pitted. He was going to the back so he pitted to make sure his car was alright.

Same thing happened to me on opening night. That's a rule they need to take a look at. Lapped cars have cost a few drivers races over the last few years at a couple tracks.

I agree on rule change if your stopping to avoid. Stop car YOU should not be punished for that Its Z rule they need to take a VERY CLOSE look at

The rule is very clear, if you stop under caution, you go to the tail. He didn't stop to miss it, he was involved in it, even if no fault of his own. Same if someone takes you out. You go to the tail. Or else you get into the gray area of having the flagman or race director interpretting intent in the heat of the moment without the benefit of replay. You may not like it, Brandon might not like it, Jim Fosnaught might not like it, but it is the rule, it is hard and fast, there is no gray area and it has to stand, or else you're opening a can of worms of interpretation, favoritism and inconsistency! That said, Brandon got hosed and robbed of a win. Feel for the kid, he's had some rotten "luck" this year.

Well if cars go to the back for stopping Alex Ferree should have been sent to the tail for stopping on the front stretch. My point is the caution was already out before Brandon go into one, He didn't see the car till the last second for whatever reason. Still feel that call may have ruined the race.

The only way you don't go to the back for stopping on the track is if you stop at an official and have a good reason for stopping, mostly safety concerns like belts coming loose or debris on the track. Not because you crashed into someone.... The rules are that way for a reason and have been that way for a long time. It eliminates the gray area and potential for people to cry favoritism.

Aright guys. I am a little confused. I did not see the incident occur because i was focusing on something else. But from what i understand, Brandon flat out just drove into the wrecked car after the caution was already out? How? Just not paying attention? Was it at least avoidable if he wouldve been?

Flat black car was very hard to see. I was sitting in turn four and couldn't really see it till Brandon hit it.

He actually spun from the middle of the track and down right in front me as I was already back on the throttle through the corner on the bottom. I had nowhere to go. It couldn't of happened at any perfect of a time.

With that being said, I've talked to a few other drivers that this has happened to at other tracks and at times the situation is unavoidable. I didn't see the Matus incident Friday but from what people tell me this lapped car that was involved with him has done some damage to other cars pretty much all year including the incident in the heat that Sodeman was involved in.

I think Brandon went to the pits (check for damage)because he was being sent to the back for getting out of his car not for hitting a spun car after the caution was already out.
