I wonder now if Tony will re-evaluate his priorities and give up the sprint car before he kills himself. He has wrecked three times in the last month. Also, I wonder how soon with multiple deaths this year in sprint cars when safety concerns will be addressed with these cars?

What do you mean his priorities ??? He has worked hard to get to where he's at , he has more money the god and he's one of the best to every drive any type of race car and his priority is to do what makes him happy ... Aka putting it to many many random smoking hot broads and racing as often as possible ....

You'd think after what, 3 or 4 deaths and multiple people getting hurt in the last 2 1/2 months someone would start looking at these death traps. It's going to take someone like Smoke to get killed before they give a damn. There has to be something to do, to make them at least a little safer where every flip isn't hurting someone.

People get in car crashes every day on the street and get killed and hurt ( broken arms, legs, etc... ) The safety in autosports has come a long way, but to sit on here and say people dont care about the safety or the drivers is a bunch of bull. I love racing and know its can be dangerous but so is eating fast food and half the crap you drink, smoke! You can get killed walking down the street! If you think they are unsafe then YOU need to come up with a NEW safety device. Last thing, if I would happen to die racing, at least I was doing something I love doing!

I wasn't necessarily saying they don't care. It's just like they don't have much ambition to seek it further. Pretty much the same thing with Dale Sr. Nascar was trying but not that hard, that happened and safety safety safety took off. Hope they are proactive instead of reactive like everything else in this country.

I don't think there is/was any way to have prevented a car from spinning in front of Tony causing his unfortunate ACCIDENT.

The biggest joke and lack of safety is right here on our local tracks. Tracks too close to the grandstands, catch fences that would hurry to hold back a large animal let alone a 2500# race car, drivers wearing single layer fire suits, no Nomex head socks, underwear, and gloves, motorcycle helmets, no fire suit at all, very few with head and neck restraint systems, etc......

Unfortunately Open Wheel cars, and Sprint cars in particular have the dubious distinction of being the most dangerous type of motorsports vehicle. There is not much you can do with a sprint car to make it much more safer than it is, the only improvement might be with an onboard fire system, maybe a few more bars here and there, but that’s about it.

He was already comitted to pass that car just to the outside and at the last second the dude spins up in front of him .... He had no way to turn under that car and if he jerked right to move up the track he probably would have hit the wall head on .... I just don't understand why a guy running all alone who was given the move over flag was racing hard enough to spin all alone ....

How about instead of "speculating" what happened and listening to the media who has no clue, you actually talk to Higday or the family(at least read what they've said)? They've stated PLENTY of times something on the car broke, but they don't know what because of how bad the front end is damaged. He was one of the fastest cars and even started the feature up front. His wife also stated something about BOTH bleeders breaking, which would cause the rear tire pressure to slowly go down. Josh Higday is not just a lapper car(this was a huge race for one), but a well respected racer in the Knoxville area.

Death traps? Really? Just a completely uneducated, retarded statement. I would love to see some statistics that backup your statement that every flip is hurting someone as well. What makes any other form of racing safer? Are sprint cars lacking safety equipment that latemodels have?

the facts are he was in the racing line after getting a move over flag regardless of what broke he could have simply driven to the bottom of the track and got out of the way when he saw the flag, and if he knew something was not right with the car even more reason to get out of the way. I'm not saying he's an idiot per say only that i've seen far too may guys get the move over and not do it for whatever reason, most likely the same reason they can't seem to get lined up for a restart. Far too many guys turn off their brain's when the motor fires.

Your right they should govern the cars to not exceed 8mph...that was the dumbest thing I ever read on here its called RACING!!!... every driver knows when they strap in it could be there last...yes there are instances where something breaks and your at the mercy of the verdict but for the most part drivers are in control 90% of the time so they have the ability to control a potential hazard

Dirt...i like it
