Marion Center Speedway – August 10, 2013 Today’s Hot Country Q-102 FM Radio came to Marion Center Speedway Saturday night as the sponsor of the night, bringing lots of goodies for the fans from not only Q-102 but their sister stations too! The cars also came to the track with over 100 ready to race-and about a fourth of them were Super Latemodels! It was a great night. The Lias Tire Super Latemodel feature was led onto the track by Dave Blazavich from Marion Center from his pole position start. Blazavich then proceeded to maintain that front position for lap after lap, keeping the others behind him. But as the end of the race neared, Blazavich came up on slower traffic that stopped him from continuing his line around the track just enough that Matt Lux who had been in hot pursuit of the leader from before the halfway flags, got the break he needed to pass Blazavich. Lux from Franklin, made his pass on the backstretch of the final lap leaving Blazavich only a half lap to recover the lead, but being entangled with the slower cars Blazavich couldn’t escape in time and had to settle for second this time. Lux’s win gave him back-to-back Saturday night trips to the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle. Blazavich had a great run for second place, and Clate Copeman from Greensburg stayed up front challenging the leaders for a third place finish. Mike Blose of New Bethlehem was fourth and Shawn Claar from Imler was fifth after starting thirteenth. Dane Laraway came next in sixth place and was followed by Dan Swartzlander, Billy Eash, Jerry Redden and Rod Phillips for the top ten. The remainder of the field finished in the order of Ken Schaltenbrand, Tom Shaffer, Bobby Watt, Herman Bertolini, Jim Boyer, Chad Helman, John Myers, Joe Zulisky, Jim Struble, Matt Gaston, Bill Burns, Dan Lee, and Tony Burke. The Lias Tire Super Latemodel heat races were won by Matt Lux, Dan Swartzlander and Mike Blose. Cheyenne Reed was back in the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle this week for the Force Inc. Steel Block Limited Latemodel division. Reed led the entire twenty lap feature for the victory holding off the only other repeat winner this year, Bernie Whiteford. Also in the mix at the front of the pack was Gabe Shaffer of Punxsutawney . Shaffer followed Reed for much of the race, but then spun out leaving the door open for Bernie Whiteford to restart the race in second position with a shot at Cheyenne Reed for the lead. But Reed held off Whiteford for the remaining four laps for the win. At the checkers it was Cheyenne Reed from Punxsutawney with the win, Bernie Whiteford of Hastings for second and Joe Petyak from Gallitzin was third. Fourth place went to Greg Beach from Chicora with Jason Fosnaught of Tarentum close behind for fifth. Sixth through tenth places went to Scott Stein, Gale Huey, Tom Jobe, Shawn Thorn and Jay Getch. The Force Inc. Steel Block Limited Latemodel heat races were won by Gale Huey and Cheyenne Reed. Andrew Satterlee gathered up another win in the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Fastrak Crate Latemodel division. Satterlee started in the second row behind Jeff Sweeney who had the pole position but outside pole position starter, Rich Logan, Jr. took the early lead at the drop of the green flag. The race was staying close and competitive until eight laps were logged in, then coming off turn four, Satterlee moved to pass Logan for the lead. In what appeared to be an attempt to block Satterlee from the pass, Logan spun out with the rest of the field right behind him. Luckily the cars got around the incident without major problems but the caution was thrown and Logan was charged with the caution. During the caution some extra-curricular activity on the track put Logan in the pits for the night. Satterlee from Rochester Mills went on to make the trip to the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle. Mike Laughard from Twin Rocks was also running up front throughout the race and finished second. Third place went to Jeff Sweeney of Marion Center (Sweeney is racing in two divisions this year and also gets congrats on the birth of their son). Jeremy Shaffer from Derry was fourth and fifth went to Scott Sallack of Punxsutawney . The rest of the field finished in the order of John Mazey, Jeremy Zufall, Josh Valenti and then Logan. The Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Fastrak Crate Latemodel heat race was won by Andrew Satterlee. Another late race pass foiled the plans of Tim Bish in the W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stocks. Bish started on the pole and had intentions of staying up front until the checkered flag flew. But Chris Schneider of Springdale had other ideas-a win of his own. Schneider followed Bish lap after lap for sixteen of twenty laps before he finally got his opportunity to take the lead. Schneider passed Bish and was able to keep the lead for the last laps of the race for the victory. Bish had to settle for second place. Joe Kelley of Mount Pleasant took third place just ahead of Jeff Sweeney from Marion Center . Fifth place went to Ray Hickok, Jr. from Commodore. The rest of the top ten for the W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stocks were Nate Smith, Rich Waltman, Joey Zambotti, Jim Handyside and Bob Egley. In the heat races, Jeff Sweeney and Nate Smith were the winners. Andrew Koenig of Ruffsdale became a repeat winner Saturday night at Marion Center Speedway, picking up his second victory of the season in the Willow Farm Campground Strictly Stock division. Koenig started on the outside pole and took the lead at the drop of the green flag and held it to the checkers for the trip to the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle. Bryant Small of Cherry Tree started on the pole and [pursued Koenig throughout the race but had to settle for second at the end. Third place went to Chris Hickok of Commodore who started third and Luke Barnett of Mahaffey took fourth after starting twelfth. Fifth place went to Gary Stitt of Deckers Point. The top ten Willow Farm Campground Strictly Stocks included Jim Hamilton, David Beahr, Jason Bender, Ryan Claycomb and Fred Casagni. In the heat races the winners were Chris Hickok (driving his own car by the way), Bryant Small and Kylie Hamilton. George Hobaugh of Carn City does it again in the Best Kawasaki Micro-Sprint division. Hobaugh picked up his fifth victory of the season Saturday night sending him once again to the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle. Hobaugh started the fifteen lap feature in the second row but took the lead for the sweep of the feature. David Hawkins from Lower Burrell started on the pole and was running third much of the race with Steve Dunmire between himself and the leader, Hobaugh. But in the late laps of the race, Hawkins was able to make a pass on Dunmire for second place leaving Dunmire from Kittanning in third. Fourth place went to Lee Lehnerd of Cabot and Robert Garvey, Jr. from Grassflat was fifth. Rounding out the top ten in order were R J Robertson, Kyle Colwell, Tim Smith, Johnny Walker and Al Caboto. In the Best Kawasaki Micro-Sprint heat races, the winners were Lee Lehnerd and George Hobaugh. Marion Center Speedway has scheduled Saturday, August 17 as Lias Tire Night and the Lias Tire Super Latemodel Special which means more laps and extra bucks for the division that night. In addition it will also be the Championship Kid’s Bike Race Night where the winner will be drawn for a bicycle to be given to some lucky child. Marion Center Speedway Kid’s Club Members Take Note: The Marion Center Speedway Kid’s Club Party will be Saturday August 17 at 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the Track. Please bring your own chairs for the party. This is when the Kid’s Club Bicycle winner will be drawn-at the party. Please come early to be prepared for all the activities so you don’t miss out. The Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Fastrak Crate Latemodel Special which was originally scheduled for Saturday, July 27 has been rescheduled for August 24 as part of the full program that night. August 24 will feature triple points for all divisions and have a raindate of Sunday, August 25 with a 6:30 PM race time. Pits and Grandstands will also open an hour earlier than usual if that Sunday date is needed. The steel block feature at hummingbird was over before the heat races were over at Marion center. It would be easy to make it in time to tag the feature.

Yep, he won Hummingbird and high tailed it to Marion Center to tag on to the feature. Someone pulled a pill for him as he was listed in a heat race lineup. He pulled in probably 30 minutes or more before the Limited Late feature hit the track. He started last (16th?) and made it up to 6th place.

Years ago late model drivers would run Challenger and then get to Marion Center in time to tag on to the feature. I remember Rod Phillips, Dave Satterlee, Mike Blose and a couple others doing this until I thought Marion stopped allowing it.

Does this show Marion Center's show is running to long or the other track is done early because they arent getting cars? Marion Center was done with everything except micros by 11:15 this past weekend.

To put a stop to the guys from challenger coming up they made the rule that you have to run the heat race to be in the feature but I guess that doesn't apply anymore.

The Bird isn't getting near the cars they use to.
Many started running at the Clearfield track.

I think guys running Windber and showing up at Marion Center may have been more common. I think Blose was doing it almost weekly.

Hummingbird has I think 3 class's then Marion Center Speedway having 5 or 6 class's. IT'S FASTER GETING IT ALL IN EARLY AT Hummingbird.

New rule listed on the Home Page of Marion Center Speedway. Starting Aug. 11, 2013 you have to be at the track before last heat race is ran to join in on the feature.
