Marion Center Speedway – August 24, 2013 Marion Center Speedway was able to run the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Fastrak Crate Latemodel Special Saturday night that was rained out July 27. The officially sanctioned race was a thirty-five lap spectacular event drawing racers from all over Pennsylvania , New York , New Jersey , Ohio and West Virginia . What was originally to be the middle leg of a “Triple Crown of Racing Weekend” turned out to be the final phase of the “triple crown” spread out over a month. Fastrak officials were on hand to make the calls and even had their own announcer at the event. Marion Center Speedway also held their regular racing program for the other divisions except for the Force Inc. Steel Block Limited Latemodels which were not scheduled for the evening. Some of those drivers though elected to run with the Lias Tire Latemodels that night. Here’s the recap of the racing: The Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Fastrak Crate Latemodel feature started with a bang – literally with fireworks but the real fireworks came later in the race. Joe Moyer and Joel Prosser filled the front row with Max Blair and Andrew Satterlee in the second row. These positions were established through the time trials that made up the heats that went ton to make the feature line-up. At the first green, Prosser took the lead and held that for the first two laps. Then Andrew Satterlee took over with Joe Moyer on his tail in second place. Then Max Blair comes up and challenges Satterlee for the lead. The two race hot and heavy side by side then boom-the fireworks just before the half-way point of the feature; the two leaders collide in turn four. It is ruled a “racing incident” and no one is charged with the caution. The racing continues with Blair and Satterlee back at racing first and second with Blair in the lead due to a good jump on the restart. Satterlee is now not only trying to find a way to get the lead back from Blair with a damaged car, but trying to keep second place in the process. Max Blair goes on to win the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Crate Latemodel Special Feature with Andrew Satterlee finishing second and Wayne Robertson taking third. Now another sideline is that the “triple crown” is a points race that has Wayne Robertson and Matt Latta running neck and neck with only a two point separation. During the race, Matt Latta was in a caution before the mid-point of the feature and became unhappy with his restarting position, went to the pits taking himself out of contention for the “Triple Crown” points championship thus allowing Wayne Robertson to claim the “Kingship.” At the conclusion of the race, Max Blair was rewarded with his victory in the night’s race, and Wayne Robertson was anointed King of the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Fastrak Crate Latemodel Triple Crown Weekend. In the preliminary heat races the winners were Max Blair, Joe Martin, and Joel Prosser. A new comer to the track made his presence known in the Lias Tire Latemodel division’s feature-Mike Altobelli, Jr. from Saxton. Altobelli started on the outside pole position beside John Britsky of Clymer and took the lead early at the drop of the first green flag. He then proceeded to lead every lap of the twenty-five lap feature for the prized trip to the Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle. Britsky bowed out of the race in the first third of the laps, but Doug Glessner of Johnstown kept on the tail of Altobelli throughout the feature and took home second place. Billy Dickson was at one point running third but slipped back as Matt Gaston from Rochester Mills and Dave Blazavich of Marion Center made their way up to the front for third and fourth places leaving Dickson in fifth. Sixth place went to Mike Blose of New Bethlehem and Clate Copeman of Greensburg was seventh. Then came Denton Boyer, Dan Swartzlander and Chad Helman for the top ten. The rest of those finishing were in the order of Bobby Watt, Tom Shaffer, Jim Boyer, John Myers, Herman Bertolini, Joe Zulisky and Ron Marsh. Those that did not finish the feature were Terry Rayko, Dane Laraway, Joe Petyak, Billy Eash, Jim Struble and John Britsky. Dan Lee tried to start the feature but left before the first lap was counted and Ryan Christoff and Ken Schaltenbrand did not start the feature. The Lias Tire Latemodel heat races were won by John Britsky, Clate Copeman and Dan Swartzlander. Nate Smith of Glen Campbell won the W. G. Satterlee & Sons Street Stock feature once again Saturday night but didn’t sweep all the laps in doing it. Luke Barnett who is pulling double duty as a driver in the Strictly Stocks as well started on the Street Stock pole and led the first lap. Then Smith came up from the second row to take the lead that he didn’t relinquish for the rest of the race. Smith got the victory with Rich Waltman from Coolspring following for second place leaving Barnett from Mahaffey in third. Fourth place went to Bob Vogt of Nanty-Glo and Jeff Sweeney from Marion center was fifth. Rounding out the top ten were Ray Hickok, Jr., Joe Kelley, Gary Furman, Jr., Joey Zambotti and Dave Galore. The W. G. Satterlee & Sons heats were won by Nate Smith and Joe Kelley. After picking up his first victory in the Willow Farm Campground Strictly Stock division last week, Nick Fulmer of Marion Center picked up his first back to back victory Saturday night in that division by once again nearly sweeping all the laps- just missing a clean sweep by one. Jim Hamilton of Coalport too the first lap but after that, Nick Fulmer moved into the front spot from starting fourth to take the lead for good. Jim Hamilton continued to hound Fulmer for the lead but never overtook Fulmer for second place. David Beahr from Windber was third and Bill Finlay of Jeannette was fourth. Chris Hickok of Commodore finished fifth and was followed by Bruce Large, Mark Wetzel, Jr., Luke Barnett, Dave Smail and Kylie Hamilton. The Willow Farm Campground Strictly Stock heat races went to Rich Waltman, Jr., Luke Barnett and Jim Hamilton. Another winner of the Best Kawasaki Micro-Sprints was added to the list of Integra Racing Shocks Winner’s Circle honorees- David Hawkins from Lower Burrell . Hawkins made his way to victory Saturday night by first taking the lead away from Brandon Hawkins and keeping the lead away from Steve Dunmire and George Hobaugh who all wanted it. David Hawkins started on the outside pole and after two laps took the lead that he kept to the end of the fifteen laps. Steve Dunmire of Kittanning was second after starting sixth and George Hobaugh from Carn City went from fifth to third at the checkers. Lee Lehnerd of Cabot was fourth and R J Robertson of Delmont was fifth. Anthony Pasquerella took sixth place and the top ten finished out with Alex Shaffer, Johnny Walker, Brandon Hawkins and Brian Haney. The Best Kawasaki heat races were won by David Hawkins and George Hobaugh. Next Saturday the Butler Auto Supplies Season Championships will be held for all divisions to wrap up the 47TH Season of Racing under the direction of the Potts family. If the races are cancelled due to inclement weather and not held the following Sunday, the next racing at the track will be Saturday September 14. And please don't leave out the part about Max Blair slamming every car he passed on his trip to the front. Not to mention taking out the leader (Andrew Satterlee) and not being charged with a caution, come to think of it nobody was charged with it, they put the second place car in the lead and the leader into second and called it good, WTF is up with this. I guess if ur daddy is a gay late model driver that's number is won11 its OK.
